Brain failure plus not lose face by giving way. Plus far to fast in channel. Must be some sort of speed limit set by marina.

It used to be 5 knots per hour 10 or so years ago....don't know what it is now....90% of them should never be allowed in the sea never mind in charge of a boat

This is how they advertise themself on YouTube, speeding where you are supposed to go max 5 knots (9kmh). There is a bend in that channel, at that speed there is noway you can see what is behind the bend. YouTube extract

That video is just incredible. Seemed like no attempt by either to move. Maybe one of them was having that famous Thai excuse of a 'microsleep'.

It is been an real bad start to 2020 for this place in all aspects and I do not expect it to change.

And the tourist board want to put a fee on tourists coming to Thailand. I think it should be the other way round, tourists should be paid a fee to come to Thailnd

I ever the silly little general needed an excuse to publicly fire a minister, he has so many to choose from!

TAT, Health, Tourism, whoever is supposed to be responsible for marine safety!

What a bunch of absolute <deleted>.

I rode on a speedboat one time. Back when I was young and foolish.

All the way up the Mae Khong river in Cambo to PP.  Rode on top.  OMG.  Instant decapitation if rollover at high speed.

Never again.

Not in that much of a hurry (to die). ????

The land of smiles.

Slowly turning into the Land of stupidity.

When operating a boat in a channel, the speed limit if I am correct is 6 knots no wake. How can the government allow this sort of practice to continue. Thailand relies heavily on tourism, this sort of thing spread across the internet is very damaging to Thailand and its many people who rely on tourists to make a living.

It's 5 knots. There is a big sign on the Chanel exit from. Boat Lagoon.

You name it they can kill it here! someones trousers may be inflating if they are Chinese again????

I thought I'd become numb over the years to this endless stupidity, but I guess not. I'd like to slap, kick, stomp the officials that allow this to occur year after year.

Put the officials in jail for a few years at least. They are the ones charged with enforcing rules. If they don't charge them for the deaths that occur. If the companies are the target after the fact and put out of business, new ones with similar traits will replace them.

The government, the police, the "water safety" inspectors that "rush to the scene" are never in any hurry to prevent this carnage. They might be in a hurry to get to the trough. There is no money to be had enforcing rules and law. Perhaps jail time, starting from the top, might be an incentive.

It has been like this since they introduced motorized vehicles and 'smart phones' in Thailand. Get used to it will take 2 or 3 generations until they learn this.

It’s a real shame,Thailand has so much to offer tourists from let’s say European countries. All they need to do is enforce the laws they already have in place. Make examples out of the law breakers, invest a bit of that tourism money into cleaning up the place. Get rid of the known scams, hang on I am starting to dream a bit here.

No Chinese Tourist now the Russians are up

This tragic incident will not go unnoticed. Thailands reputation as a family friendly destination just got worse....if that's possible.

Thanks for the information,I watched the video and that definitely was not 5 knots. Both the operators of those boats should be charged with dangerous operation of a watercraft resulting in the death of 2 people. My heart goes out to the parents of those two kids. I hope the Thai government assists the parents in returning their deceased children back to their home country.

What license is that?

I will email the Health Minister to complain and suggest that everyone should wear masks on speedboats. RIP to the deceased.

Yes. Thank you.

I am based in Boat lagoon and have a boat there. It happens every day when those young pilots drive their boats at 20 knots in the inland Chanel, even in the low tide.

Another thing. There are mostly Russian tourists who use the speedboats from BL. And the speedboat companies relied on them almost exclusively. The rest of tourists left. Now they will scare the Russians,if it's possible.

"Thai seamanship".......During my 30 years experience of working in the offshore Marine industry both subsea and topside I witnessed the seamanship of two Thai Mariners who happened to be The Captain and The Mate of a anchor handling tug which required the manouvering and positioning of 25 ton anchors used to reposition oil rigs. Both these guys were polite well mannered but terrible seaman giving me uneccesary drama on deck even in the calmest of weather. Needless to say they didn't last long and were not invited back to the Field.

Many captains avoid hiring Thai nationals as crews because they don't care about their own life and life of the crew members.
