Pattaya: Tooled up Israeli arrested as immigration and drug police swoop in condominium car park

A middle aged Israeli man has been arrested after wandering around Pattaya armed with a gun and ammunition in his pocket.

A search of his house turned up another weapon owned by his Thai wife. He is now in the custody of the Pattaya police.

INN named the suspect as just John, who they said was 43. A vinyl board produced by immigration listed his age as 48.

Officers from Chonburi and Region 3 immigration teamed up with the drug suppression division and swooped on the car park of the City Garden Pattaya Condominium in South Pattaya.

A North American Arms (mini) .22 revolver and five bullets were found in the suspect's left trouser pocket.

The operation was expanded to the house of the suspect on Jomtien Sai 1 where an Italian made Tanfoglio automatic 9mm pistol was found.

The gun is listed online as ideal for self-defence and sports, notes Thaivisa.

This weapon was found to be legally registered to the Thai wife of the suspect.

INN reported that John was charged with illegal possession of a firearm and having a firearm in a public place.

He is now in the custody of the Pattaya police.

An online report earlier this week said that only Thai citizens are allowed to have guns after the law was amended in 2017.

There is a pack of them on Koh Samui. I am sure they are up to no good.

His wie's pistol is perfect. Everyone should have one

I have seldom heard much of misbehaving by Israelis outside their home country except for Thailand. In fact, you never seem to hear much at all about Israelis.

Nope its not. Again using sweeping statements to justify blatant racism in Thailand. In civilised countries laws are not passed on racist grounds as many laws are in Thailand.

Where would we be without the good old vinyl board!

Well feel free then to go apply for a gun permit in Japan, or Great Britain as a non-citizen or non permanent resident. Or Australia, I bet they let all sorts of Americans just roll on over for a couple months and buy a gun.

Continual screaming of racism in a situation where it's got nothing to do with the issue at hand cheapens the suffering of folks who are actually victims of racist behavior.

The man rightly did not feel safe in Thailand and could well have very good justification to carry a weapon. Thailand is a very dangerous country however a lot of expats choose to ignore or refuse to see. I think the fact his wife has a permit suggests she/they have good reason to own a fire arm as is required on the application. As for the burn him in hell reaction by some on here Wow! If treated like a Thai with equal justice 20k fine and have a nice day. I personally think any expat who lives in Thailand who has no form of protection is mad. I personally had a very large dog  that everyone new stayed inside my house.

... still coming to grips what the connection a 9mm pistol has to do with Sport?

  - about all I could come with;

is that with a pistol the aim is so bad at distance, and so

that a victim has a sporting chance of being missed!

What rambling rubbish to try and justify racism. For a start handguns are banned in the UK and to obtain say a shotgun or hunting rifle  licence in the UK the requirements have nothing to do with your place of birth or nationality it has all to do with meeting the criteria, references and criminal checks. I beat/shot on some very prestigious estates in Scotland with my dogs and people from all over the world would shoot and some brining their own guns so I would disagree. Holding a British passport is not a criteria to getting a shotgun/hunting rifel licence in the UK. I'm sorry to burst your bubble but Thailand is very racist and even owning or having an air rifle or catapult as a non Thai is illegal. Making excuses for Thailand's racism will not help bring changes.

You do not have to hold a British Passport to own a shotgun or rifle (hand guns are banned in UK) - You have to pass certain checks - interview with a firearms officer... No criminal record etc ... If all is in, order no problem.

Yes you can not just walk into "Walmart / Asda" and pick up a few shotguns with your baked beans like I do believe you  can in certain states in the US (well, they may not have the baked beans)

Agree . Chaweng has an area full of their restaurants and then there was the guy running some clinic in bophut who had guns , the long term guy who was dealing heroin and other drugs and the guys running around shooting each other on the main road . Having dealt with a few I avoid them like the plague.

Did some hummus give you a tummy ache? So your bad experience with "a few" means that ALL of "them" are bad. That sounds fair.

Out of about 20 I met one that was ok but still as shady as hell . So yeah they aren’t my cup of tea for hanging out with and oddly enough I have never found this with any other people I meet here .

Go to Israel as a foreigner and stroll around Jerusalem with a loaded gun in your pants.....and then come back to Thailand. This jerk should be put on the next plane back to Israel. He is a threat to society,  such any other un authorised person moving around with a loaded firearm in his pants.

Are you saying they are "shady" due to their nationality, or due to their possibly criminality?

Do that, and you wouldn't make it back to Thailand.  You would be shot on sight by security forces.  Jerusalem is flashpoint area.

So I guess the rogue in Thailand can consider himself lucky and all the more reason to deport him back to Israel.
