Some time ago, there was a lot of discussion about the TM28, which essentially required foreigners to report any absence from their residence, including a 24 stay elsewhere.   Did you, or anyone you know, ever actually file a TM28?

Please feel free to leave a comment.

Nor the TM30, but I was told last week at extension of visa that they were going to start enforcing the TM30 when you arrive from abroad, even if, like myself you have lived at the same address for 10 years.

I thought I read last week somebody posted that if you leave the country and come back then you’re going to the same address that you don’t report to them CIT

I submitted one about 5 years ago, when I tried to re-report I was told it wasn't needed.

Last year (after mention was made of it in media), I asked again. The first 6 Immigration officers I was directed to didn't know what a TM28 was. The 7th told me not to worry. They were all pleasant and polite, but not aware. All ended well (no TM28 completed, TM30 completed). Chiang Mai Immigration.

I did a TM28 at CW when I moved a few years ago. I was hoping it would help with the online 90-day report. I saw the officer put it into the computer but the 90 days still didn't work online with the new address until I did one in person.

I still get confused with this TM28 and TM30.

I think the TM28 is for if you change your address and the TM30 is for when you return to your home after being out of your province for more than 24 hours.

Am married to my Thai wife, on the marriage extension and live in my wife house that I built and paid for, so she is the landlord or something like that, and she puts what she has to put in the system whenever we re-enter our province from being away, either overseas or within Thailand, and asked the IO the other day when I picked up my extension if we still have to do it and he said YES, so we continue to do as they want us, and if I ever hear something on TVF as someone said, no need for it anymore, I ask my own IO because it can vary from office to office.

Never heard of TM 28.

Going back about 6 years I was away and did my 90 day in Mukdahan, treated like royalty a visiting Frang.

12 Months later I was down in Prachuap Khiri Khan where I am now and did my 90 at the local immigration, no problem, until I went to do my next 90 day in CM.

Not amused, Why you go and no tell. Huh ? I got a polite but sever talking to and I thought that was all, but no B800 fine for not telling CM I had left province.

You are correct, it is the OP that is confused.

Heading on the TM28,

FORM FOR ALIENS TO NOTIFY CHANGE OF ADDRESS OR THEIR STAYI IN THE PROVINCE FOR OVER 24 HOURS.

I do a TM28 every time I return at Jomtien, my owner lives in Germany, I never see her, she has no idea what a TM30 is.

I always return to the same address, been there over 3 years, I have enquired if this necessary at Jomtien, yes. I have a Mulit Entry non 0 Immigrant Visa.

I always do a tm28 when I arrive. My condo office does the tm30.

I stay more than the 60 days allowed on my visa, so need the tm28 , otherwise Jomtien will refuse the extension 30 days.

Filled in & submitted a TM28 when I changes Immigration offices.

Fill in a TM 30 when I arrive back to my same address from overseas.

Do NOT fill in a TM30 when I return from within the country travel to same address which I think they now realize was a bit stupid anyway

1 time about 4 years back at CW BKK when was changing my permanent residence from Jomtien to Bangkok, they required one and also fined me for not having done it on time. Think the fine was ฿800 if memory serves. Not since, though may be changing residence again in a year or 2, so imagine will be doing one again then.

I don't agree with any rule that says you must use a TM28, so I would not use it if I think I will

get away with it, the same applies to the TM30.

I thought the TM-28 was for a permanent change of address and the TM-30 was for a 24hr out of home reporting.

Most the IOs themselves don't know, so what chance have you got?

The TM28 is/was actually officially used for "Change of Address" when moving to another province. Some immigration offices accepted the TM28 together with the TM30, some rejected it and just asked for the TM30. Now it seems like the TM27 is supposed to be used.

TM-28 is / was CHANGE of permanent address.  Not enforced ( in theory ) anymore.

This was never its purpose.

Some immigration offices just used it wrongfully, but this never made much sense.

Basically all foreigners who entered Thailand legally are now officially exempt, so you don't have to use a TM28.

TM28 is used to self report in lieu of a landlord or owner filing a TM30. I've filed one every time I've returned home for the past couple of years.

Interdasting, why has my  visits to immigration only required a copy of a TM-30 and not also a TM-28 ?

My wife owns our house, she is my landlord, she has never filed a TM30. She comes with me to file the TM28 and she always asks, do you need me to file a TM30 also, the reply is always no.

she is the landlord, no wonder she does not need to do the TM-28, she should be doing the TM-30 and you the TM-28.

RULE #1: ASK your LOCAL IO what is required

Shooting yourself in the foot

You’ll probably get accused of not previously doing whatever rule they decide on the day

As already said, I do file a TM28,

As already said, she has been told by Immigration repeatedly there is no need for her to file a TM30.

Is there an echo in here!

Just to make sure I register online the TM30 each time I stayed somewhere else where I was registered, like at a hotel. It takes less than 5 minutes.
