6:30 a.m. Pattaya. Foreign bank visa. ATM had normal screen. Put card in and up popped "Temporarily out of order" and ate my card. All day on phone with Thai only, music, transfers, call backs. Got my card back near closing time at distant branch. Card worked fine at branch ATM.

cancell your card immidiately.

might a banker fraud to get your card details and charge you later.

On Wednesday afternoon a friend advised me tha Bangkok Bank ATMs where not working and that perhaps the banks where being shut down.
I went to my 2 Banks, UOB and SCB, I withdrew enough money at both banks to last me over one month.

It could be all over!?

Handling money that has been in the pocket, or a handbag of an infected person, is a sure way to get the nasties on your hands. Then you rub your eye, or scratch your nose,,,, etc.

The banks are just trying to help.

Stay off the blue-pills for a while

..and I don't mean Viagra

Yesterday the 25th I used Transferwise to send £700 to my Bangkok bank account . Have used this system for the past 3 years or more without any problems but on this occasion ? I was waiting for the transfer confirmation by Messenger text which is done normally within 1 minute but it did not happen . Long story cut short but I spoke to TW who said the money was refused by the recipient ( Bangkok bank ) because  senders derails did not match the account details .  Absolute rubbish as nothing has changed over the last 3 years .

TW refunded the £700 to my UK account where is is in abeyance waiting for clearance which is 2 to 5 working days .   Tried again to send £300 to TW but my UK bank would not allow it .

Same here in Chiang Mai. My wife tried yesterday to withdraw 5,000 baht from a BBK atm using her BBK atm card. She got a similar message and no money. Checked this morning and BBK had charged her for the 5,000 baht. She is waiting now at the bank for them to open. They have taped off all of their atm's at the branch where she is waiting saying they are out of order.

so after not working since 09:30 this morning in Hua Hin my Bangkok Bank ATM card worked at 19:00 at ATM.

that was the fifth try at four different banks over the course of the day.

I can hardly wait to see what tomorrow brings.

Maybe more outpourings of incredulous disbelief with repetitive inferences to the hopelessness of, and general feeling of disenchuffedness with our hosts by the usual suspects?

And rancor? Yes, rancor. I reckon we haven't had a decent run of rancor here for a few days now.

Update: Wife just checked with the staff at BBK branch at MeeChok plaze in Chiang Mai. They had her fill out some form, and said that everyone's account should be updated by 7:00 pm to show the corrected balance.

And that poster should be ashamed for even suggesting that was the issue and feeding the paranoia already so latent on this board.

Another poster suggesting lazada was blocking transactions on foreign cards.

What is wrong with you people?

After all these years you still need to ask?

yesterday i used my Bangkok Bank ATM card and failed to withdraw 9900, 900, 1000, 2000 baht at various ATMs. None of the failed transactions have shown up in my account.

thank you everybody for your reports.

and my BB phone app is operational as far as log in and basic functions like account balances.

Did Bht50k to my Bkk Bnk on Tuesday. Went as usual. Unfortunately Tuesday was the lowest exchange rate for a week or so, but I needed it on 24th as always. It's only money!   LOL

In any country in Europe banks online systems crashes every year. If a Thai bank goes offline for a few hours you freak out and withdraw money for a month? Yesterday loads of people went for money for immigration, and Bangkok Bank is the largest bank in Thailand. I guess you can understand why the system crashed.

I have to balance the risk of 'gf stealing it' Vs 'atm not working'.

I think I have the balance about right.

Not everyone is fortunate enough to have the trustworthy, educated, age appropriate, hi-so woman from a wealthy respectable family in their bed, that so many TV posters have managed to find.

How many times in a year doesn't an ATM work? I can't remember the last time Bangkok Banks system crashed. In Europe it happens on a regular basis.

Many people keeping more just in case

There's no need what so ever to keep 10k or more in a drawer just in case an ATM suddenly doesn't work. How can people freak out because a system went down ~5 hours? Try to relax and just wait it out.

How many times a year do airlines cancel all flights and countries close their borders?

We're living in strange times.

You heard of the financial crisis when banks went under? it happens, prepare for it just in case. If you have no cash available in an emergency you are totally <deleted>.

But not too much cash in case of civil unrest and Thais start thinking mugging farang is a good idea like a few days ago in Jomtien

Might be an idea make a run for home before all air travel closes and the 24hr curfew comes in. After that what happens in Thailand is anyone guess. I know where I'd rather be when Mr CV19 comes knocking at my door and its not looking to the Thai healthcare system to pull me through it.

Mind you there would be no shortage of ventilators. If all they have to do is go "Suck" "Blow" there's plenty of ex working girls around now to undertake this role.

Pattaya is a ghost town now so ideal for social distancing, safer than back in the west for sure, but i appreciate Thais may be very hungry soon so we all need to take precautions

Ummm - there is a pandemic going on in case you had not heard.  Can you remember the last time there was a pandemic?

Went into Kasikorn Bank to get extra cash yesterday at the Avenue Mall.  ATM's outside the bank not working, all 4 are OUT OF CASH.

Ladies very nice inside, didn't even need my passport, just bank book and ATM card.

Said many people using ATM, and they are out of cash (all 4 of them)

Likely some special "tech" guy or something needs to refill them with cash.

Side note: I mentioned the sanitizer very low, she said they went through 5 bottles of sanitizer already today ~ 4:30
