Thailand reports 109 new coronavirus cases and one death

 

 

BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand reported 109 new coronavirus cases and one death, bringing the total to 1,245 infections and 6 deaths, the spokesman of the government's Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) said on Saturday.

 

The latest death is of a patient with some prior health complication, Taweesin Wisanuyothin, the CCSA spokesman said.

 

The Thai government on Friday ordered the closing down of more public facilities and businesses to curb the spread of coronavirus, and has extended existing closures until the end of April.

 

The provinces of Narathiwat and Pattani in southern Thailand are in lockdown while several other provinces have issued orders to restrict the opening and closing times of 24-hour convenience stores.

Have you been to the markets recently? The one by my house is jam packed every night. Of course they are not just selling food. They are selling clothes, phones, and other items at the back of the market. Easy pickings for the police since it's right by the Bang Son MRT station but of course the PoPo are no where to find.

This remains an incredibly low number, considering the millions of Chinese people who were crowded about in Thailand in January. And if those people were infected, and mixing with the general population, and if we were going to see an explosion in cases, like alot of fear mongering officials are saying, it would have happened already. Sorry to disappoint. But, it will not grow to alarming numbers here. I anticipate it leveling off at 5,000 cases or less. Granted, I could be wrong. This is simply my personal estimate, partly based on some evidence that heat seems to decimate this virus, and the fact that it seems to thrive in temperatures of 35-67 degrees F. There is some science to back up this assertion. If this was going to become an alarming situation, it would have happened already. 100 new cases a day is nothing. We are seeing 10,000 plus in the US.

Hard to believe not more, but in reality we are not even close to having it pop out of the 14 - 21 day incubation jump stage after the major exodus of unemployed Thai and foreign workers going back to their home provinces or to their countries borders to cross home. 100 or so must be a give me number.

Just to give an example from known numbers from the free societies from past viruses:

 

Chinese swine flu 2009-2010, in the US it lightly infected more than 50 million, most never knew, 280,000 were hospitalized and 12,000 died, that’s the swine flu in one country, if the Wuhan virus is more virile, then many millions of people would be lightly infected in each country and not even know, some will be severe and need hospital treatment, and some will die, same as the Chinese swine flu

 

This idea that a few are being infected every day is nuts, this land had its first public known infection on Jan 13th, maybe others infected far earlier, that patient was from Wuhan, China, a 63 year old tourist, for 2-3 months, very little was done, and very little testing,

 

the only way it goes to post-Wuhan virus panic, is when people want to earn money and work, and think, Sod it, few people die, it’s a waste of time these lockdowns, and start to rumble, revolt wise, and authorities panic, and allow post-Wuhan virus way of life, and accept herd immunity, as vaccines are a long way off, that way hospitals can be better prepared for extra severe patients, most people have learned to be responsible, and greater amounts of testing,

being with these gangsters in charge, you never know, but they will start to panic too, about people’s reactions, forced not to earn money

Why? he died. few years back... I don't expect he's likely to acknowledge thanks, no matter how sincerely given.

 

Still, each to his own. Me? I have a favourite rock in the back garden. I go out and say thanks to the rock if I get lucky about something.

The swine flu originated in Mexico and spread to the USA it does not come from China

Well lets see now.......if a virus spread cannot be contained, and is rising at a rate that could be alarming, what would be the best way to give the impression a government was in full control, while the prevention methods suggest paddling like fleeing duck?

The US is testing thousands every day, hence the numbers. I’d guess that Thailand is not. I’d also guess that Thailand is not revealing the correct numbers and that deaths are being misdiagnosed. My guess is that your 5,000 cases is already here.

Probably better to say that as of now, 0.0018 percent of the population here has been infected, with 0.000009 percent of the population dying from the virus. 

 

These percentages are frightening, right? I'd say lock down the whole country, cripple small businesses, start local fiefdom house quarantine without government approval, mandate useless mask wearing, have a health minister who is uninformed and a xenophobe, so....yes, this is serious....

I'm guessing China had 1 million cases.  nobody runs incinerators 24 hours a day for their "numbers".  Now they might have 10 million cases.  

 

I'm guessing there will be 1 billion cases in a few months.

100 new cases is nothing unless you are not testing the same amount as the countries you compare with. You are consistent in your message I will give you that.
There is another thread running that says without proper enforced social distancing the numbers are gonna explode but you seem to know more than the people making those assumptions, not just here but worldwide.

 

Let’s hope you are right about the heat and the world experts who are not seeing it as a factor are wrong.

That's why I used death instead of positive tested cases. I believe that there is alot less testing in undeveloped countries, but cold countries have x50 more deaths. 

 

I don't believe it's logical that warmer countries (including the likes of AUS) are collectively under reporting deaths. The difference in cases and deaths is enormous. We all know it has to do with the climate but governments don't want to take the risk. 

 

It won't blow up here. Or else it would have happened in January already.

This is why a lockdown is a problem....it must continue for months. I understand many of these new infections were from returnees. But a new wave is expected if they ease off the pedal too much.

Seems likely. Accuracy in the number of cases reported is not likely to be high. The 2 factors militating for this are:

 

1. Maintaining face.

2. Competence.
