PHUKET: A post on social media deriding the B5,000 government handout introduced to assist those most affected by the coronavirus epidemic has landed one individual in hot water with the authorities.

Mr Kotchaporn Sangjan, 25, from Roi Et, who is a ladyboy, was summoned by Patong police to explain a post he had shared on his personal Facebook account suggesting the handout was merely insignificant small change.

“The 5,000 baht handout has already been wired to my account. It’s just small change behind my refrigerator,” he said.

33 dead over the last 100 days in a population of 79 million ? Is anyone else doing the maths here ? I come out with an incredible death toll of 0.000000471% per day. This is becoming really sad, not so much the virus but the manipulation of the public to a point of complete debilitation ????

Perhaps because of lock down etc......?

Though the beer stoppage is daft...

Do not post an opinion, which is not complimentry of the ruling party, gets you into trouble. .

Reminds me of some people expressing differing opinions in the Land of the Free and Home of the Brave. :wai:

What is the purpose of the word "ladyboy" in the title, other than to stigmatise a minority? Nasty, bigoted work.

i didn't get that feeling at all.  in the land of hubs, it seems "ladyboy" is simply an occupation, much like shopkeeper or bus driver.  the only derision appeared directed at the sensitive feelings of the smart car operators.

What pronoun, pray, should they have used instead? WYSIWYG.

You might need to brush up on your English grammar:  "ladyboy" is not a pronoun.  "He" or "she" would be a pronoun.  In the context "person" would not have been offensive.

She can always go back to the rice fields. No more customers for the next 2 years.

And you need to brush up on your journalism. When was the last time you saw the word person in a newspaper headline? My old chief sub would have had your guts for garters!

Somehow, "Police warning for person who derided B5,000 government handout" doesn't have quite the same ring (or any, er, ring at all, as it's explicitly gender-neutral).

The pronoun he would presumably only not be offensive if the ladyboy in question identified as male. And vice versa, of course. Unfortunately, we are not told which way he/she/they swing(s). Possibly both, lucky beast.

Oh, and Just for the record. . .  I am told on good authority (don't ask!) that the pronoun for a ladyboy is shim.

Ain't linguistics lovely!
