OK, it's not for my headlamps but I need some acrylic polish for a job I'm doing.

 

The stuff sold as "headlamp polish" would do the trick just fine.

 

Anyone seen it in the regular outlets?

Mr Sheen, as Furniture Polish

perfectly suitable for bare and polished Woods, lacquered surfaces and plastics.

I have even tried it on the car, on the metallic finished clear coat, that has been fading terribly for years... the result was a perfectly water beading surface 

Amway was another type of venue for the same product type... 

 

Just to clarify, I need to remove minor scratches from clear acrylic.

 

I've polished down with the finest abrasive I have (toothpaste!) there's just a little hazing left now.

Try some toothpaste, I've seen Ed the mechanic on wheeler dealer use it

Yeah, it's pretty good, just need that final finishing off to remove the last bit of hazing left by the toothpaste.

 

Corn flour and a damp cloth can take out micro fine scratches in paint so it should do the job

Sadly, Madam's ingredients stash doesn't include cornflour ????

 

Silicone Wax Rubbing Compound is a two in one abrasive polish. Use gently with lambskin polishing mop on the end of a power drill. Lightly, do not apply pressure.

 

Then finish off with ordinary polish alone.

 

Can be bought in shops that sell automotive paint.

yes, it is a shoe polish of all things! 

 

however there are plain old shoe polishes,  and there is

 Kiwi Parade Gloss  (select 'Neutral' for this case in hand) 

 

any ex military type worth his salt, will swear by this stuff 

 

Putting on shoes is but one purpose; but the point is that this stuff is born to be 'spit polish'ed onto whatever you want to end up all smooth and shiny 

 

this will, as a by note; also restore all your faux leather (such as camera pouches, or your car upholstery) that have worn and/or gone 'gummy' over the years...

Tamiya makes model polish for plastic models. 

 

I've go some cheapo motorbike polish in a toothpaste sized tube i bought in Indonesia but I suspect similar is available here at Tesco. Not tried it on headlights. Yet:-)

 

But I've used it on helmet visors.

I am SO glad you followed that comment up!!

Did remove deep scratches , fresh cuts and a little 'cracking by the sun' with a propane torch.

Failed the first attempt but done right it will heal the acrylic material.

Not my visor I'm not that daft, but it does work.

BTW. In days of yore when they taught skills. You can rub two pieces of 1500 grit paper together to get? Who knows? 3000.

Novus is easily ordered on Lazada. You can also buy the vapor polishing kits, or DK Xenon does vapor polish as a service.

Lots of choice from many sources. Check out Meguiars website, they're a reputable brand and 20% off at Lazada presently.

Haven't used any other auto cleaning/polishing product for more than twenty five years and never been disappointed by the results

It's never too late for useful input ????

 

I got an adequate result using 2000 grit wet and dry used in my orbital sander (used wet) followed by 3M Scratch Remover (for paint scratches) and an orbital polisher.

 

It's not perfect by any means so I'll check out the K-Tops stuff next time I'm in Lotus.
