In a suspected case of suicide, a man was found hanged from a tree in Chiang Mai province after the Covid-19 crisis left him jobless and his wife left him with their six-month-old child.

The man, identified as Thanakrit, lived in Mae On district, with the baby after his wife had left him. On May 31, he left his house without his purse and medicine. His father said Thanakrit told him he wanted to calm himself down.

He was found later hanged from a tree in a local forest. His phone, motorcycle and ID card were found at the scene.

The man is thought to have been dead for a week or longer, according to his physical condition.

His funeral was held on Friday (June 12), afternoon.

For many of the country’s poorest who work in low-paid informal jobs, those prospects seem especially daunting. Dozens of newly jobless locals are known to have taken their lives. Even some Western expats who have lost their jobs or whose businesses have collapsed have committed suicide in recent weeks!! and who knows what's coming ..

Seems the father wasn't too concerned then?

6000 road deaths to date this year in Thailand, hundreds of suicides. It puts this farcical global over reaction to this covid nonsense it to perspective.

What have road deaths got to do with this thread and where did you get the "hundreds of suicides" nonsense statistic from?

You gave yourself an accurate name for this forum.

Think of the millions who have died from (nonsense) illness, and those who will possible live long term complications including cardiac, lung and kidney impairment .

Suicide is the tragedy here and lack of supports for those affected financially.

6,850 as of June 16, 41 per day.  Yes, the 58 deaths attributed to Covid-19 pale by comparison.
