20% of the gdp is tourism related in one way or another,

compare that to the 32% in Cambodia..

As long as returning thais keep bringing covid back with them, dont expect to see the country opening anytime before sept

And 1000s still waiting to come back.

Opinions differ. My freedom of movement here is far more liberal than it would be in Australia. I have my son there to assure me it is so.

Curfews don't matter to me, I'm not on the roads at those hours anyway. The booze bans were readily circumvented, I could buy alcohol at the shop in my GF's village any time I felt like it. I played golf right through the lockdown, which I certainly could not have done in Australia.

Your son must live in Victoria Lacessit. I think they were the only place that banned golf. I live in Qld and have experienced very little restriction, apart from my cancelled OS trip, and the library being closed.

funny how so many people say thailand relies heavily on tourism they obviously dont. one of the most covid free countries in the world and still not letting anyone in,yet europe open as usual, so who really relies on tourism more

Aren't you mixing a few things like tourism and the Wuhan virus?

Yes, Thailand's tourism industry is mighty important to the country in general and the poorer people working in that industry.

Yes, the Wuhan virus is a point  of fear for the government.

For obvious reasons, some very selfish.

The best advice for Thailand would be to close the borders for Chinese.

Lockdown is getting in force in China because of the second wave.

Looking at your screen name, i can understand your pain.

A screen name with obvious connections with porn is no way to present oneself in a decent, fun-loving forum as this one!

Well, at least 12 % of the GDP, that's quite a part in Thailand. Plus all affilited business.

South European countries like Spain or Greece are even more depending on tourism, having been hit much harder by the Chinese virus but are almost all open.

Can't be many places outside Thailand that are so bad ! The country isnt favourable to foreigners at this time! You can't go anywhere without a facemask and bars are closed .oh and rainy season starting . why be here ?

I hear all this BS on this site of how great things are in Thailand and they are so happy they aren't stuck in the west. Curfews, beach closures, booze bans everything closed. I'm sure glad I got the fark out in time, friends stuck there assure me it was- is no place to be, and that I made the right decision going home to where things ARE great!

our government has takin great care of its people, monthly cheques, no one is starving lined up for food etc.

Which has resulted in Thailand close to being Corvid virus free and now we are virus free, things are getting back to normal .

Are you from the USA, where the virus is still rife and out of control ?

Until your Country gets the virus under control , you wont be allowed into Thailand

Look at the already rising infections in recently opened EU countries (Schengen). Money matters for tourism. Lives don't.

well i hope you're right about high season but i have my doubts, they dont exactly seem to be in a rush to let anyone in at all.   and what is the agenda then?     also its funny how everyone claims the thais are money mad but they are not letting anyone in, and are actually more worried about their citizens health than money, even tho thats thai logic for ya  as theres been 6000 deaths on the road so far this year. and as we know a tiny amount of deaths from covid 19.

Like I said, their income streams and how much power they will have will decide what happens.

You have answered your own question.

If the Thai government gave a damn about its citizens they would have been concerted efforts to sort out road traffic deaths currently, as you say, 6000 so far this year. There are countless other areas where they could improve the overall health of the nation, they are not interested. Neither are they interested in rooting our corruption in the Police and Military.

This is all about holding power and strengthening their own positions. They are in a cocoon and unaffected by what is happening to the economy.

They don't give a damn about the man or woman in the street or the difficulties they face.

I sincerely hope for you and for Thailand that you don't live here. If you do, may I ask you how can you live in a country which you detest to such an extent?

Bars are not open......................nuffin to do

That's sad! I can understand it if you're a tourist - when I'm in Thailand I spend much of my time in bars, chasing the ladies of the night, lazing at the swimming pool etc etc and about the only other thing I do is read.

But here in UK which is my home I have plenty of hobbies.

I cut short my trip in March when CV19 was getting serious enough for the FCO to advise all Brits to return home.

Since I've been back, there hasn't been a pub or restaurant open but I've hardly had a boring day, in fact some days I run out of time to do what i want to do.

Boredom is all in the mind and sadly, a sign of little imagination........IMO, of course
