A dreadful experience at one of my favorite Pubs.

Had a nasty experience at one of my favorite bars the other night (I am not going to name the bar in question or the location where it happened).
So, on July 1st I rock up for a nice cold pint after months of prohibition and im told as soon as I sit down that its buy 1 get 1 free..

great, i thought.

the bill comes and everything was right as rain. I was charged 140 baht for 2 beers so i thought sweet as, i will come back tomorrow.

goes back the following day, asks is it still buy 1 get 1 free, waitress answers yes, perfect thought I, so I sits in the same chair and orders exactly the same As i did the day before. 
this time the bill comes and the pints have magically jumped up to 190 baht instead of yesterdays 140.

strange thought I, (only 50 baht but still worthy of bringing it to the attention of the waitress so i called her over). She explained that this was the correct price so I objected that i paid 140 the previous day. She asked if i would like to talk to the manager (and here is where the fun starts). I reluctantly agreed, as i knew what was about to come.

she waltzes over, cockily as can be and asks me ‘what is the problem sir’.

to which i replied that the price has increased from yesterday by 50 baht for them same pints.

she then looked at me and said ‘not possible sir, this is the price.”

i told her that yesterday i paid 140, not 190 and she said nobody can do buy 1 get 1 free for 140, ‘you go look yourself sir, any bar can do it? No i dont think so, sir) she wss so arrogant and then she fed me some BS about how they were trying to help the people out by doing by 1 get 1 free and i was spoiling the mood. (Really? nothing about gettin more customers into the pub after 3 months of lockdown and the possible closure of your establishment? I beg to differ).
by now it became obvious to me that somebody other than myself had made a mistake and i was paying for their mistake by having to listen to this managers spiel about pint prices and how I must be wrong. I distinctly remember the price of the buy 1 get 1 free beers as 140 the day before, and now its 190.

this has nothing to do with the 50 baht, more to do with the managers attitude and how she made it out to be my fault when all i wanted was consistency.. She then said ‘maybe better you go somewhere

else next time, not come here again because You make a problem.’

at that point I knew it was time to leave, i had done nothing other than stand up for my rights as a consumer. The beers at happy hour are advertised at 140 baht. It was buy 1 get 1 free and i ordered during happy hour.. therefore i should have got 2 beers for 140 baht (70 baht per pint), not 190. 

as always, no consistency and shoddy attitude shown to a regular paying customer. 
 

i wont be going back again.

Did you ever think that maybe 190 was the right price and you were lucky the day before. 

 

I mean that is possible too, then again foreigners always think they get ripped off.

 

Did you find the 170 somewhere in a menu or else ?

It is happy hour everyday in the pub until 7pm. I ordered my drinks around 16:30, well within the happy hour range.

I was charged 140 baht the first day for my pints, 190 baht the next..

I think I'd reserve the word dreadful for something substantially more than quibbling over the price of 2 beers or 50 baht....

You got lucky on an opening night special, or mistake....Now you've gone & alienated your "favorite" place against you....For 50 baht....

Surprised they didn't say you were undercharged the first day and ask for another 50bht to make up for it.

 

My local beer shop charges 50bht for a large U-beer, and they're making a profit on that.

So was it normally 190bht for a small or a large beer?

 

Just before COVID, the Chang girl at my local bar/restaurant wanted to sell me 4 large Chang for 250bht.

The thought of her constantly filling my glass in that tight dress was tempting, but 4 large would have killed me.

Aren't you confusing loss with profit, because if my memory serves me right, U-beer is 640 Baht a box for 12 large at Makro

I always go to the same place if i drink, I know the staff by name and am polite and always tip

I always get the same thing, small sangsom bottle, bucket of ice, 2 mixers(ginger ales) I ask nicely for manao-lime as well, free....Is 180 baht and I leave the 20 as tip for one drop off of the whole thing...

I finish off the 2 mixers and can take the bottle with me or leave it there, I always take it with me

and transfer the rum into a plastic tea bottle so easy to carry, no glass, and it looks like tea....

 

When it is placed in front of me I say thank you and PAY in full......otherwise I always PAY BEFORE I drink.

 

If it upsets you I leave reviews on Google maps at the location, so its forever online and they have no way of removing it or knowing who I am..can always remove it in the future if you choose to do so..

 

I have learned even if you are right, you will get nowhere arguing with a thai..is like politics and religion..

Alcohol stores usually buy direct from the suppliers.

640bht at Makro is not wholesale price.

Why do you suppose that she was lying?  If the price was, is 190 Baht then that is the price.  Just because you got in for 140 the day before doesn't mean she is wrong.  And if it did go up 50 Bhat, so what?  Chill mate

Point is that the first time could be a mistake too.. so the 140 bt could be the mistake and the 190 the correct price. So did you see a written price anywhere ?
