PHUKET:-- The Chief of the Phuket Immigration Office in Phuket Town is inviting foreigners who are concerned about their visa status ahead of the July 31 amnesty expiring to visit his office and have their extensions to stay renewed, or even have their 90 day reports filed.

 

Phuket Immigration Chief Col Narong Chanaphaiku today (July 7) urged foreigners to not worry about their visa and permit to stay status just yet, as the automatic visa extension granted by the Immigration Bureau will remain in effect until at least July 31.

 

Under the extension, foreigners whose visas had expired on or after March 26 are permitted to stay in the country until July 31 without having to apply for an extension, without paying any fees or submitting any documents.

well, he is clearly 100% thai; 50 % of the people that need immig services wont know that, after the first visit turnaway,then they try to book the reservation ; How to do that , then there will be a long queue, then they cant get in until after july 31, then they are on overstay and subject to fines and deportation;

Seems the smart BMW has been repossessed by the bank…and fugitives from visa justice (and other assorted foreign hooligans) are now required to visit the Immigration Office via dumb public transportation to turn themselves in.

I am an expat, went to the immigration office this morning and renewed my retirement visa for another year.

Temp check on entry, chairs organised for social distancing, took my queue ticket. In and out in under an hour. No problem.

Me too. I went last month in Samui. After my clinic health check was denied and I was forced to go to a hospital and pay 1000 baht for a chest X Ray and blood test and then at length explain why BKK bank sometimes marks international transfers as local and why every transaction is not in the bank book and then show proof that the bank book had actual incorrect dates of an incoming transfer of 800k THB and then force against his will my landlord to re-register me under some new Immigration process I was in an out in 10 days with 3 trips to the office to find they used the 800k method instead of my preferred 65k monthly option which I was also eligible for and had to insist they change. No problem.

Will said Expat Tom. If only everyone could understand Thailand. That`s how it is here.

Great, now if only i could get back into the country to actually get to Phuket !

If there truly is as many people who are going to be “turning up at immigration on 31st” then surely not everybody will get seen to, everybody wants to maximise their amnesty days remaining and won’t go on let’s say 29th 30th to be sure. As they will surely be turned away saying “no need to come here until after July 31”

 

not everybody is going to get their visa sorted and we will all be on overstay. 
we’ve all seen how slow they work in the immigration office. Especially when it’s nearly lunch time.

Then they need to leave

Surely they will extend the visa amnesty, right? It would make sense to do that... but this is Thailand so who knows? If there are thousands of expats officially on overstay after the 31st then that would end up creating lots of easy revenue in fines etc

If all is fair then amnesty should prevail . Please note immigration Thailand that NZ has extended foreign   Workers, many of them Thais work visas for up to 12 months as they are trapped by c19 and would face extreme financial hardship to get home.
