PHUKET: The notorious illegal beach club at Nui Beach in Karon, where tourists for years were extorted entry fees and even threatened with violence, has been torn down by officials for illegally occupying state forest land.

More than 100 officers descended on the site yesterday (July 9), bolstered by security personnel from the Royal Thai Navy Third Area Command and led by the Phuket branch of the Internal Security Operations Command (Isoc).

Isoc, which has a branch in every province in the country, serves as the political arm of the Thai military.

One can only hope so, although I heard a rumor from locals a few years back that an "untouchable" was linked to this operation in addition to Prab.

100 policemen needed help from security personnel to execute a civil judgment?

Police did nothing for 5 years.  The navy was there to make sure the order was enforced.

Even after the military coup when they cleared all the umbrellas from the beaches why didn't they pull the place down then?

And the 100 Police was a case of safety in numbers, as in such a number is unlikely to be harrassed later by the crooks who set up the beach club.

The article didn't say that there were 100 RTP officers involved...

"PHUKET: The notorious illegal beach club at Nui Beach in Karon, where tourists for years were extorted entry fees and even threatened with violence, has been torn down by officials for illegally occupying state forest land.

The article referred to 100 officials/officers, i.e. provincial and local government officers, ISOC officers and RTN security officers who were supported by RTP officers as explained in the link.

I did think this, but was not so sure - would love for this to be back to the old set up

Which setup? They have changed many times in the last decade. ????

The beach isn't that good anyway, Freedom Beach is better - unless you want to party.

I think even 10 years ago there were very minimal facilities there (a small restaurant) and someone to collect an admission charge where the path to the beach ended. There was also a big to-do about them not allowing anyone to arrive at the beach by boat and lay on the sand without paying.

300 baht for entry or for the transport? I guess they are free to offer transport to anyone willing to pay.
