Temple raided in Prachinburi: 10 million baht in cash and jewels stolen from the abbot

Sri Maha Bodhi police were called to the temple of Wat Prathum Bucha, Prachinburi, after the abbot reported that his quarters had been ransacked.

Missing was more than 300,000 baht in cash though the thief or thieves somehow missed a further 700,000 in a couple of safes.

Jewels worth ten million baht were also gone.

Investigators noticed that an outside door was forced and that the abbot's bag in his sitting room had been rifled.

Missing was some of the money from a 50,000 baht withdrawal he had made earlier.

A bedroom door and two safes inside the bedroom had also been forced.

A total of 700,000 baht in the safes was not seen.

But 300,000 baht stashed at the head of the bed was stolen.

Jewels to the tune of 10 million baht that 77kaoded said had been donated to the temple by the faithful, were also missing.

Whoever stole all that disappeared without a trace.

The gullibility and acceptance of the Thai people of these orange clad freeloading clowns is truly outstanding

  • No, no, no. He's not angry. He's an abbot. He doesn't care about material items and wealth. He finds true happiness from within. I'm surprised he even told anyone.

For any one thinking of robbing a gold shop, change your plans

Temples seem to offer more with less security

10,000,000 baht in jewels seems a bit over the top to me, are  the monks robbing the dead prior to cremation

With that kind of money laying around , I do hope that the Temples Monks were not walking around asking for food/donations

The 300,000 Thb, maybe just the days takings,

Remember the gunman earlier this year and then a spate of amateur copy cats.

Guess what happens next.

He looks like one angry abbot as the guy in the red shirt is planning his escape ????

the new normal thanks to the overreactive government shutdowns.  FOR all those in favor of this insane overreach ...this is just the beginning.

when people have lost everything

and have nothing to loose .....

they loose it.

What the hell was all that money and jewels doing there in the first place?

I think the abbot is telling porkies, probably a few thousand baht, but exaggerated to make it sound worse.

Perhaps there was something extraterrestrial going on, and he disappeared in a puff of smoke to another dimension.

Apart from the robes, there was buggar-all left.

Why would any person or institution keep that amount on premises? Keep it "off the books" away from officials knowing about it if put in a bank.

Similar to problem drug dealers have. Millions molding away in basement because can't be deposited in bank.

I would like to see some firm investigation as to the "why" of all this cash being at wat

But that ain't gonna happen

We just had the Thai guy in Pattaya do a temple robbery to fund his Pattaya bars and bar girls outing with lots of loose, laying around temple cash.

Now like a week later we have an even larger theft, once again with lots and lots of temple cash laying around and now jewels being added to the booty.

Perhaps the government ought to be looking to the country's countless temples to fund its failing CV economic relief measures for the people. It would seem the temples have more free money than the government does!!!

Pennies from heaven.

Forget the phrase drive-by-shootings, it appears we have a new improved one: Pray-by-theft.

That safe might be fire resistant but against tealeaf's not so much ..

Yet they all seem to have several of the latest phones , ray ban sunglasses , smoke , have houses and even cars !

Does that mean it's only susceptible to attack only from aliens?

That must mean we're ahead of the game for once.

Perhaps you mean 'books' like American author L. Ron Hubbard who wrote science fiction books.

Then he said the way to make real money was to start a religion, so he started scientology which proved him correct.

Same-same but different.

I think that's only a myth!
