It's simpler than that. For girls with no education qualifications it's a chance to make loads more money than in a sweat shop or as a maid ( absolutely horrible job ) or farming.

Also, it's more fun than they would have in an ordinary life, and the chance of catching a rich farang ATM.

Cynical much? Good looking girls are in short supply for the bars so need to pay good wage to attract. Nothing to do with drinks sold.
