Who would be will to go on such a journey?

I will certainly consider it. I use to spend six months in Thailand every winter, and then 14 days in quarantine is not that bad. However, I will wait and see how this turns out; instead of going October 1st as I use to, I will probably wait until November 1th - it also depends on the available hotels, I will not stay at an expensive 5-star hotel.

  • And how exactly are tourists going to get there? Will they start to issue tourist visas again? Flights?

  • But perhaps a way for stranded expats to come back, if anything at all.

There is so much negativity on TVF that you aren't seeing the big picture. Assuming that this goes ahead, and it likely will, it'll be taken up by thousands and thousands of people. And yes, details w

And the other half in quarantine in their home country. There is you 4 week holiday gone.

I will pass.

Not a good deal for one month. And who'd want to stay longer?

So how does it work then. Who decides which hotels people stay in ?

If you have one family staying in one room , does that mean the cleaner can only clean that one room ,

and as it states in the report "staff will have to stay in the hotel too."

So the cleaning ladies don't get to go home to feed the kids at the end of their shift ?

and won't see the kids and the old man for weeks on end ?

Phuk Phuket I'd be phukking seething if I was any other island. They should all kick off Phuket is not the only island suffering.

Has this been cleared with the CAAT ? I doubt it, its the usual scenario these days with various ministers making up their own personal policy.

for this to be completely safe for the health of Thais chips would have to be implanted in the visitors heads - sure as shootin' soon as people become drunk quarantine will become meaningless..

The government wants 0 cases and is trashing its economy and starving 90% of its citizens. It is waiting for a free vaccination program for all its citizens - paid for by The West

No one is actually starving though, Thailand is also developing its own vaccine and if another Country makes a vaccine first, Thailand would gladly pay for it

Good idea ????????

Seeing that Phuket’s 4 day promotion in Bangkok only resulted in 1.3 million baht of bookings (with no quarantine required), I expect that this will flop too.

Tourists will have to stay for at least 30 days, with the first 14 days in quarantine in a limited vicinity of their hotel, before they can visit other areas

who the heck is stupid enough to book a 30 days vacation but only be able to """freely""" enjoy half of it.....another brainless out of desperation decision

people with lots of $$ as you say will not be stupid enough to lock themselves inside !!! a hotel for 14 days quarantine.

...I don't think it will be like locked up in a 35 sq m condo.. they would have resort facilities and limited access to the outdoors.. I did 14 days at home on my own with half the house screened off with plastic sheeting.. my wife brought me meals.. I had access to the garden... TV.. internet.. and the odd beer... wasn't that bad.. If I had access to a beach and  a pool I'd do it again if it was on Samui..

30 days is the minimum days of stay , they can stay longer if they want to

People with lots of $$ and think they will be better of there than where they are.. an ready for a holiday.. no everyone is poor..

the people with lots of $$$$ have plenty/better places to chose from, usually not Thailand, and whereby no  14 days quarantine is required

I'm ready to take up to 40 bubble tourists in my garden per month. After 15 days and 50k per tourist i will open my gate and let them run free.

Visitors will have to take an additional test and remain within the province for another week before they can travel to other parts of the country

I assume these test will be at the expense of the 'visitors'?

How much insurance cover will they need specifically for Covid - I'm guessing it won't be that cheap?

Limits the market already .. how many people can take a mth in one hit from their vacation allowance and then spend nearly half of it indoors ..

Must be those with more money than sense?

Just reported in UK Guardian newspaper

"

Myanmar has locked down the state capital of the conflict-torn Rakhine state after an outbreak of a coronavirus strain that officials said was more infectious than that previously seen in the country.

Since Monday, 19 people have tested positive for the virus in the western region, health officials confirmed on Friday, the first local transmission in Myanmar in months, bringing the total number of cases to 409.

Myat Htut Nyunt, deputy director at Myanmar’s department of medical research, said the type of virus was the same as a mutation detected earlier this week in Malaysia, which has been found in Europe, North America, and parts of Asia and is thought to be more infectious.

“So we would like to inform the people that this kind of virus has a faster rate of transmission,” Nyunt said."

So, the more infectious strain has arrived close by.  Expect it to arrive in Thailand in 3,2,1...

Will they be able to mix with other guests in communal areas of the hotel? Because if Guest A arrives on Day #1 and 13 days later meets Guest B who just arrived, the whole quarantine thing falls to pieces. And all staff will not be allowed home at all!

Incredible!

What happens when they are 10 days into their quarantine and another load of tourists turn up. Do they go to a seperate hotel.

For it to really work the airlines would have to run like a package tour , where everybody on that plane stays in the same hotel.

So you would need 14 seperate quarantine hotels to accommodate 14 days of " package tours " to stop later arrivals mixing with the earlier arrivals.

Agreed, and also for those that have been here since Mid March when things went pear shaped to return to their home country with the knowledge they can get back here again via this route.

Finally some sense prevails . They should test at airport and if negative send them 7 days In qurantine rather than 15

Except that the virus has an incubation period of up to 14 days... and can remain undetected for that length of time post-exposure, before symptoms can surface if they do. And people are said to be most contagious in the few days before symptoms surface, and then the first few days after.

Haven't heard any plan to change the currently required $100,000 USD medical coverage including for COVID.
