Thais hope 2 million foreign tourists will visit from year end to March, despite all the restrictions

 

 

Thai TV Channel 7 said that tourism and sports minister Pipat Ratchakitprakarn and four other ministries were pushing ahead with plans to lure foreign tourists to three southern islands. 

 

It is part of a restricted movement and quarantine plan and involves Phi Phi, Phuket and Koh Samui.

 

Foreigners would have to go directly to their destination by air (how this applied to Phi Phi was not explained).

 

Before they get on the plane they must have a fit to fly certificate. 

 

 

Once at the island of their choice they must stay in their quarantine hotel for 14 days, stay on the island and be subjected to further Covid-19 tests. 

 

At the end of this they could leave the island and leave the province. 

 

The media said that Thailand hopes that 2 million tourists will be prepared to follow such measures from the final months of this year until March.

 

The tourism and sports ministry are working with the foreign, interior, transport and health ministries on the plan. 

 

Pipat reiterated that this was not a travel bubble plan but something different.

You'll be lucky to get people in the thousands but more like hundreds if they have to quarantine for 14 days and pay for it .

I would say that it is a very forlorn hope. Right now they can go many places in the world without having such measures, so why the hell would they agree in their millions to put up with such here?

Everyone but the Thai ministers know this makes zero sense.

 

If you're a real tourist, who would spend 2 weeks in quarantine on arrival + 2 weeks quarantine back in their home country for a 1 week holiday in Phuket? Who even has 5 weeks holiday to do it as a lot of people used up their holiday time during lockdown when they ran out of sick leave.

 

Then you have the long stay like me who spend 6 months per year in Pattaya. Why would I want to stay in Phuket for 3 weeks at my cost. I have no interest going there 

 

They will work out pretty quick and change in policy will be required !!

 

 

Quit the LSD and come down to earth. 

May be because 98% of Thais think their country is better than other countries - logic to follow, 98% of all international Tourists have only 1 dream - holidays in the promised land  -  Thailand.

There are people who will be happy to do this.

They have a house here and usually come for a minimum of three months. Sometimes six months.

In the village where I live I know of 6, possibly 8 that would jump at the chance.

You only have to look at the fleeing Brits stampede from EU countries this week to avoid a HOME quarantine for your answer you fools ???? 

Would these be Burmese cruising the Gulf of Thailand on ships? All you can catch seafood buffets.

 

 

I mean honestly, how are these 2 million people going to get here? Walk, swim, sail?

 

Airlines just can't whipsaw capacity on a moment's notice? Airlines can't even sell tickets for ravel to Thailand now. THAI Airways won't be flying much before Q3 2021.

 

Who wants to come here?

 

Vacations are planned long in advance.

 

And why is it always a "scheme", trying to "lure" tourists?

 

Are these Thai words which have a different meaning but this is how they translate them?

 

I guess you could scheme to lure two million Chinese tourists, assuming they want to come here. Everybody holler, Zero Baht.

for obvious reasons the tourism minister is not really busy at the moment

then he is trying to justify his high wage with some press statements

 

The ones real in charge (CCSA) have already say NO to this plan

 

''Several leading doctors in Thailand who advise the Ministry of Public Health and the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) have made social media posts this weekend stating they are strongly opposed to opening Thailand to tourists at this point in any way, shape or form.

The concern follows the government announcing on Friday a plan to cautiously re-open Phuket to a limited number of foreign tourists in October.''

4 months is about 17.4 weeks.

2 weeks quarantine that's 8.7 quarantine periods from Dec to March.

So they must have 230,000 people in quarantine at the same time and I estimate about 2,000 hotels with quarantine facilities. Realistic?

 

No idea how realistic 2 million long stay tourists are. Seems like a fantasy number.

Nobody says they have to stay inside their hotel room, just quarantine on the island.
