Thailand's Phang-Nga province reimposes anti-COVID-19 restrictions for fear of second wave

BANGKOK (Xinhua) -- Authorities of Phang-Nga Province, one of Thailand's famous tourist destinations in the south, said on Saturday that anyone entering the province is subject to a 14-day home quarantine amid concerns for a second wave of COVID-19 pandemic.

 

"A 14-day home quarantine is not too much to ask," said Phang-Nga provincial governor Chamroen Thipphayaphongthada, "however for those who can provide evidence of entering a state or local quarantine facility before arriving into the Phang-Nga, won't need to go through a another round of quarantine."

 

The announcement came after Thailand last week discovered a new local COVID-19 case after 100 days of free local transmission. The surging number of COVID-19 cases in neighboring Myanmar also prompted the governor to reimpose the health measures.

Imagine travelling from outside Thailand, quarantining for 14 days , spending 2 nights in Bangkok, then having to quarantine for another 14 days here - not to mention another 14 days when you went home

I'd prefer to wait to hear this reported from a Thailand news source rather than Chinese 

Phang Nga had no medical checkpoints yesterday, so I dont know where this 'news' is coming from. Could get in and out without any problem.

Probably a poor translation and not for people living in the country now, but for maybe future visitors from outside, and specially from the country, who gave us the flue.

feel sorry for the people trying to make a living, one domestic infection and the area is locked down, shut tight.

Pathetic!  This decision is of course the "will of the people" and "what's best for them".  No consultation other matter because the higher ups no better than the unwashed masses. Hopefully people will remember this next time an election rolls around.

Probably have to change the slogan to "Amazingly Stupid Thailand". One case and making people who live in covid19 free Thailand go into quarantine on arrival into a different part of the country!

Just 2 days ago I just bought a voucher for a one week stay for two persons in Phang Nga, that will expire on 19. December 2020.

May be these guys should test quarantine, even if they don't have to, just to see how it can feel for foreign tourists.

Exciting tropics, eh? You never know what kind of incarceration awaits. Quite a lure for the gazillions of tourists just waiting to get packed into an aeroplane to breathe into a mask for half a day and then be taken to their mystery gulag accommodations.

Which covers just about any common cold. Has anybody tried lately to get tested?

 

Fun fact: my wife seems to be permanently running at 37.4, I at 36.8 (I have a high precision Braun temp meter that you stick in the ear). 0.1 more for her and she's toast. Never been stopped at the Cheap Chinese Infrared <deleted> meter station though. I guess you have to be over 50 DegC.

Do buck up Richard, if you've already done quarantine elsewhere you are exempt (according to the OP). 

And this comes from an official organ of the Chinese Communist Party. 

 

They ain't daft you know. Er.......... 

Do NOT book any kind of accomodation or travel to any part of Thailand outside of your home-province, as you will never know, which kind of quarantine request will suddenly pop up, before your scheduled holiday!  The government is encouraging residents of Thailand to travel within the country, in order to support the suffering tourism industry, while local guvernors are opposing the exact same idea!!
