STV: Chinese will be first foreign tourists allowed in, then Scandinavians

Thai media The Bangkok Insight has revealed the first flights that will be allowed into Thailand now that the government has approved plans for the STV or special Tourist Visa.

The first flights will be from Guangzhou in China on October 8th and 25th.

The first will be a specially chartered Air Asia flight to Phuket carrying 150 tourists.

Then on October 25th 126 people will be allowed on a Thai Smile flight to Suvarnabhumi.

The third flight mentioned by the media will be on November 1st from what they termed "prathet Scandinavia" or "the country of Scandinavia".

This will contain 120 passengers and also be bound for Suvarnabhumi.

They said that tourism minister Pipat Ratchakitprakarn's much vaunted STV plan is now just awaiting rubber stamping after gaining approval at a CCSA meeting chaired by PM Prayut Chan-ocha yesterday.

Tourists will be housed at one of five hotels that have been approved as part of the Alternative Local State Quarantine plan.

There are 300+ rooms available in Chonburi, Phuket and Buriram.

One more place is currently under consideration to house the tourists.

Of course the fallacious pandering to the Chinese comes first... <deleted> shame on them

  • Pure Gold. Perhaps someone ought to inform these Thai chiefs that the average stay of a Chinese national is 5 days less than the 2 week quarantine.

In other words, Samui, Phuket, Pattaya and other popular tourist destinations will not be hiring back the 10's of thousands of workers that have departed anytime soon.

I do not understand the logistics of this. 150 Chinese will arrive in Phuket on a charter flight to stay for at least 30 days. Are they all going to stay for the same duration? Will there be a charter flight to return them to China after X amount of days?

Hang on, there are Chinese submarines at stake here, of course the Chinese get first dibs on entry. I don't think there is any question as to the intent on the spread of the Chinese disease! WWIII!

Someone needs to tell the London consulate.

The plane needs to go back for the next batch.

Valuable lesson for all the expats, retirees and potential business owners in thailand from Europe and America. You really mean nothing and they don't want you. Crazy right.

Maybe if you all pulled your money out and left they would be forced to treat you better so you'll stay..

No doubt the economy won't get better and by mid December they will try to get mass tourist back before end year and to start next year

The level of ignorance is comical. But not surprising.

The whole thing doesn't add up.

Announce a proposal, couple weeks later announce 150 people (not 147 or 152) will arrive under the proposal yet the final plans of proposal not announced.

Insinuates 150 people standing with papers in hand and all book flight immediately upon Thailand saying 1, 2, 3 go.  As well as the consular stamping all said papers immediately as well as all covid tests, fit to fly, etc. etc. etc.

But, whatever.....

Why not.

They seem to have the virus under control and they do make up approx 18% of the world population and are perhaps by tourist numbers spending and investing the most in Thailand travel/tourist/property industry.

Unfortunately, in the US, UK and many countries in Europe, the virus is out of control as the inhabitants of those nations feel their freedom of whatever is important.

Why would the Generals and Elites care? They are rich and don't need any more money for the time being. Let's call it as it is ..........

Most 0f the punters will be expats eg retirees, condo owners and family men who have been waiting for 6 months to hear 1,2,3 go

Unfortunately USA and UK won't be on the list for years IMO

Way more than 150 Chinese are in dire need to bring cash to Thailand for condos they bought under the radar of Chinese authorities...

The Thai do not care if they are getting Yuan or Euros. What they care about is that China does not have covid and they have a lot of people ready to fly.

Also millions of Chinese intend to relocate and operate businesses in Thailand bringing in big bucks.

Every action the government takes is based on finance and filling their personal treasure chests.

So will the Chinese tourists have to get a pre-flight check and certificate?

What are the conditions for their stay in quarantine after arriving?

This is Thailand. Nobody has worked out how they are going to get home yet.

Serving your biggest market is "pandering"...maybe you need to check your Western priviledge or anti-Chinese bias?

Allowing in a few hundred Chinese tourists is some kind of "reward"?

I've been treated very well during the entire pandemic (and the 20 years preceeding it) thank you. In particular during this Covid-19 period, there's no other place I want to be.

Given that China was the single biggest source of tourists prior to the virus, and seems to have got it under control, it makes sense for them to be the first country to be allowed back in large numbers.  Should this be successful, then no doubt the gates will open further to allow other nationalities in, should their own countries allow them to travel overseas.

Something strange here.

I'm from Denmark (part of Scandinavia), and right now we have the highest number of infections ever. More than 50 pr 100.000 citizen.

Norway also just had a spike in their numbers - so seems the people making the rules in Thailand just rolled the dice after picking their favorite China.
