Well i had to leave thailand in july to go to Europe because my insurance only covers me for 1 year nonstop....after that i have to set foot in my homecountry or my insurance is invalid.

And yes now it's hard to go back...

That's your situation...nothing to do with Thailand implementing steps to control a pandemic.

  • The wisdom - or lack of it - to travel in March is not the issue here. The difference in treatment by Thai authorities between O and O-A visa holders is.

  • Sorry, anyone who went to the UK for a "short holiday in March" was asking for trouble.

  • I think it's right to let the married spouses in first...that's why they were married and you could have done the same if you wanted.

People have fallen through the cracks all over the world.

I have to agree in March if you were travelling when all this was going down you were asking for it.  I'm not bashing the guy, but it was not a good time to be travelling anywhere on earth in March.  The whole world was shutting down.

Many people seem to be under the impression that countrys' visa and immigration laws are made for their convenience; when in fact they are made to implement the economic goals and social policies of the countries that make them.

well it's the law and it's the rules so no good whinging and whining about it.

Look at ways you can be positive and enter Thailand instead of spitting your dummy out from the pram.

For those questioning travel in March. I, myself, left Thailand in last week of Feb, there was no thought of a Thailand shutdown at that point. At all.

And once you are outside Thailand theres no coverage of Thai news or rumours overseas. I would not spend my holidays signing into here as well.

For those who think we are idiots, I hope something similar happens too you someday. Boot other foot.

There was a lot of news about a fast spreading viral disease in China...that's the signal to get the heck back home.

While I sympathise with your predicament I have to say it was becoming clear that travelling overseas was taking a risk during the back end of February.

I had U.K. flights and a rental car booked for mid March , I cancelled both on 20th February.

Am not calling you an idiot but you have to admit that the signs of travel disruption were there and you made the decision to travel knowing it was risky .

Mr. P, Thailand has bigger fish to fry and as sad as you are, this is what can happen living in a foreign country.

No sense stressing yourself out, Thailand will sort it out when they are good and ready.

Until then you should find happy things to do and wait it out life everyone else.

No letter or plea is going to expedite anything for you.

You can't reach the Bangkok Post or Thai Visa for news when you are overseas?

Got to feel sorry for anybody stuck back there now. Well into autumn now with only a cold, wet winter to look forward to.

Personally I think that rubbish. I was at Saigon airport March 16 on return to BKK.

With few guys that live/work in Singapore.

All the afternoon flights were cancelled. Could not believe it.

I thought I would be still returning to Vietnam couple weeks later.

On the 19th NZ Shut all borders. My thinking .."that's bit fast". Next day 20 match Au did the same. Think Thai was one of the last March 26.

Very easy in hindsight. Even then I'm thinking that this will last month or 2.

Cry me a river.

They were in complete denial about the stupidity of their own actions on here shortly after the lockdown commenced. Blaming everyone except themselves for their own bad decisions.

It was obvious that a lockdown could happen as early as end of Feb so anyone travelling subsequent to that period took a massive risk.

Well, it's not really your home is it? Or are you still in denial about your status here?

Some people will never learn I guess.

We were all also told by the British Embassy just before the border closures  , "If you need to go anywhere , go now"

I am in a similar situation to the OP other than I am stuck in Thailand. If I leave, I won't be able to return to my family. I can't marry because of my marital status in the UK which is unresolvable.

Was diagnosed with a serious medical condition in February which requires me to return to the UK for treatment. I look at media articles every day and hope I'm still alive when the situation changes.

There are many reasons why people may find themselves stranded on either side.

My sympathy goes out to you, the gentleman who is stuck in the UK because he came back for a family bereavement and everyone one else who through no fault of their own is distanced from their loved ones.

No.

Sounds like BS to me but without knowing what your medical issue is I'll have to believe you I guess.

Good luck with it all and hope you get treatment before you die.

First you are not stuck in Thailand.

Second, how can you marital status in the UK be unresolvable?

What medical conditions do they not have any treatments for in Thailand?

After that you have to ask yourself what is the wiser choice?

  • Going home with the need to stay away from your family for a while. Get the treatment and be able to come back and live with them at a later stage?
  • Not going home, risk to die, just for staying with them until you die?

To me, there is only one of those options that seems to be the responsible one.

So basically you’re calling him irresponsible when you know <deleted> all about his personal circumstances.

Your condition is obviously not life threatening otherwise you would be back home getting it sorted.

The BS part of my post was that you cannot be treated in Thailand, more likely you do not have the insurance to cover it and don't have the cash to pay out of pocket.

Anywho, good luck with it all.

I left Thailand the 10th of March. The first sign of the virus was that at Swampy my temperature was checked.

No I called one of the choices the responsible one. What choice he is making willo define if the person is responsible or irresponsible.
