OK, bought it off a Brit with 83,000 on the odometer. 230,000 baht. Now 14 years old. He may well be regretting the decision to sell, as he was replacing it with a new Ford. One of my better buys in Thailand.

Now has 165,000 on the odometer, has never missed a beat. Doesn't have ABS, my generation knows how to drive cars without it.

Believe it or not, I have met a retired guy who said he was part of the protection detail of the UK Royal Family. I believed him, very fit looking.

Quite polite and affable, the guys who are the genuine article don't need to prove anything to anybody.

Evidently my post #97 went straight through to the wicketkeeper. Refer my post #99, trolls get the same treatment.

I was first here in 1974... a young backpacker amidst a handful of others here and there... a round the world journey for myself and many of us... we were young and curious and looking to experience and learn from and about other cultures. If you saw another farang, you both stopped and said hello, exchanged information [no internet] and travel tips and advice.

 

Fast forward to today and all the ways the world has changed. So many farang here, varying reasons and I am afraid that the least of which is cultural curiosity. Not being polite seems more and more a way of the Western World... 

 

That said, I do meet some interesting farang here and there... but mostly, am comfortable w/my wife's large family and the Thai people I know... 

 

unfortunately, it seems the world is flat and we are sailing off the edge... happy trails to you and don't let the many jerks out there get to you... be thankful you have a village.

According to some posters here, I should have decked the guy for his impertinence. Then spent some time in an IDC prior to deportation, at least my honor would have been intact. I have worked in Thailand as an Engineer and have met allot of expats that are not teachers and are working in Thailand.
