Trump suggests he might try to fire Fauci post-election

OPA-LOCKA, Fla. (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump suggested early on Monday that he might seek to fire a highly respected member of his coronavirus task force, Anthony Fauci, after Fauci further criticized Trump's handling of the virus.

Fauci, the country's leading infectious-disease expert who is director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, has taken issue with Trump's repeated assertions that the U.S. fight against the virus was "rounding the turn" when in fact tens of thousands of people are being infected daily.

“We're in for a whole lot of hurt. It’s not a good situation," Fauci told The Washington Post on Friday. "All the stars are aligned in the wrong place as you go into the fall and winter season, with people congregating at home indoors. You could not possibly be positioned more poorly."

When Trump defended his handling of the virus at a late-night campaign rally at Opa-Locka airport in the Miami area, a "Fire Fauci" chant broke out.

In response to the chant, Trump said: "Don't tell anybody, but let me wait until a little bit after the election."

Election Day is on Tuesday, with Trump trailing Democratic rival Joe Biden in opinion polls.

Fauci is one of the most popular health experts in the United States, a fact that Trump has cited in the past to avoid getting into tangles with him.

  • Trump is such a little CRY BABY who cant handle the TRUTH and facts about himself so much so that he has to attack the people to make himself feel better just like a 5 year old spoilt brat.

  • IMO it would be a relief for Fauci, no longer having to keep his mouth shut while Trump does his anti-science BS.

  • There's no "Try" involved here. Fauci is history immediately after Donald J. Trump's landslide tomorrow. ????

Trump CAN'T fire him. Dr. Fauci is a civil servant. To fire a civil servant literally takes an act of Congress.

Hey 45 - just go away like the bad smell you are.

If anyone required proof that Trump supporters have very limited intelligence, I believe you have it right here.

One man trying to protect the nation, with another living in cloud cuckoo land leading his minions towards their doom, and who do these people back?

I pray this is the last day before the nation starts in the right direction.

Congratulations Dr Fauci, you are better off not working for a buffoon clown like Trump! Hopefully he's gone before you are!

I suspect a lot of people around here will be ‘history’ after tomorrow.

The thing I don't understand about all of these guys in their 70's is them wanting to be President. I mean retirement ages should be mandatory, 65, move over let fresh blood in, remembering with age comes dementia etc etc and everyone has a use by date, Fauci IMO at 79 should have been shelved years ago, so should have Biden and Trump regardless of all the cr-p they keep promising to deliver the American people.

The delusional Trump don’t get it, he is not going to be in the White House post election...What a clown, cannot wait to see him go...Then he will not have the presidency to shield him against all these charges & he will shrivel up and to a pathetic old man from all the pressure...Som Nam Na

We can only hope that will happen, this will take months to resolve, he wants to ignore postal votes arriving after the election date and has said he has a handful of lawyers ready, that would remove a lot of Biden supporters and the overseas military vote (Huffington Post), fatso has no dignity, he will go screaming and kicking, a disgrace to western democracy.

I would like to see him give his blessing on a  Trump administration  Vaccine ,and then dismiss fauci !

Somebodies ego often makes them dumb to the facts of life. All over the world countries are in the process of lifting the retirement age for many reasons. Age is not representative of mental/cognitive decline or total physical collapse. Science now shows that 14 year olds are equal  to 17 year old in the the 40/50s, seniors are in the reverse boat because of modern preventative medicine. With that said we do have exceptions ! Yes Donald is one.

Yes don, real bright. Only the best people.

World leaders how did we get to this pile of inept Cac ????

I understand Trump wanting to shut down scientists so he can keep lying to the population, I dont understand the absolute morons who actually take up the chant.Appears they want to shoot the messenger.

They truly want Fauci gone because he proves fearless leader is wrong.

Fauci's sole purpose in life is to know all about virus's, and advise the American people.

The executive can reassign any one.  As long as rank and pay are unchanged he could send him to American Samoa to study affects of food poisoning in native population.

And for the record, Trump will win by the largest margin since Reagan.

He can't fire him from his current job.  He can exclude him from the pandemic task force. Speaking of firing the American people are in the process of firing the worst president in American history. How sweet it is.

Definitive proof that Biden will win easily.

I somehow remember from history lessons in school that some dictators shot the messenger after receiving the bad news.

I guess in case Trump will be reelected then he will consider this option. I am sure his supporters would applaud.

Crazy America.

Oh I think there is so much truth in that.

I posted somewhere else he reminds me of downfall.

My 10c is that he's either building the myth that he "at least went down fighting", or he's determined to destroy as much as he can out of sheer contempt for a people who didn't elect him a second time. Downfall stuff.

I can't see any other explanations - it's all too destructive and hate filled.

Donald doesent have the power to dismiss Fauci lol naaa he’s just lashing out like the pitiful spiteful nasty baby man he is,very soon he will be stripped of the mantle of potus spending the rest of his life fighting to stay out of prison amid declining popularity as the depths of his dereliction and incompetence come to light

False, It does not take an act of congress to fire servant. That's just nonsense.

And it's one thing to predict that trump will win. According the fivethirtyeight.com he has a respectable 10% chance.

But to predict that he will win by the largest margin since Reagan, betrays a kind of cluelessness about Trump's situation today that is truly astonishing. The odds are overwhelming that he won't win by Reagan's margins either in the raw vote or in the electoral college.

So you agree boon mee was wrong. Trump cannot fire him.

Again proving trump supporters believe alternative facts.

Your prediction of who will win is based on...well nothing.

I will make a prediction of my own.

By tomorrow there will be a few less posters on this site. You can tell who they are, they only ever post on trump threads. One could wonder why.

You're wrong. I was a career civil servant and got busted for admitting to growing pot. No physical evidence, just my own stupidity. I was put on what was called "The White Badge" crew where we went out, dug holes then filled them up. Our firings had to go through Congress. You should not speak of things you really don't know about.
