Thai army rangers patrolling the Mekong River in the area of Chiang Khong, Chiang Rai picked up six suspects on Thursday.

All six were North Korean women aged 32 to 44 from a variety of cities.

They had paid a Laotian speedboat operator to whisk them across the river and like many of their compatriots hoped to apply for political asylum in Thailand and then be sent back to SOUTH Korea.

77kaoded reported that this business had gone quiet during the height of the pandemic but was now on the rise again with hundreds prepared to pay agents in Laos.

The suspects are now in the hands of Chiang Mai immigration.

Yes, I think so, I've watched a couple of video's about this escape route they dont normally want to stay in Thailand the end of their trip is the South Korean embassy in Bangkok, sending them back to a certain death sentence plus their families.

Do the right thing Thailand dont send them back you gain nothing by doing that

Hopefully they will be moved on to South Korea.

Is is a pickle as what to do with them as any assistant the Thai government will render to these people will incur the wrath of the N. Korean and will encourage many others to follow suite...

From what I know thats exactly what they want, might already have family and friends there

sheesh, they sure took the long route to Thailand. It would be interesting to see, if after all that way through China any of them have Covid ????

Vietnam has the same problem and that is food shortages, except with Vietnam they are coming from China looking for food.

Wonder whether Chakakhan is thinking about going to Chaing Rai and asking one of the North Koreans out on a date ?

There is no “pickle”.  These women face certain execution if returned to North Korea.  International law is clear in cases of this kind.  They must be given sanctuary in Thailand or another country willing to take them
