The 32 second clip - now removed - showed what the media called a "cruel teacher" hitting the hands of students sitting at desks. She had a large stick then exchanged this for another weapon, a T square. Daily News said she used all her strength to attack the children. There was no apparent reason for the violence. Netizens said it was OTT though some suggested the teacher may have had reason for her actions. Popular Post richard_smith237 Posted November 24, 2020 Popular Post Posted November 24, 2020 After the recent news and follow up social and media outrage, charges, law suits etc a teacher would have to a) be monumentally stupid, and, B) be have serious mental issues to execute any form of physical punishment on a child. I’m glad society is recognising this issue. Its now time that ALL schools where such punishment is dished out are penalised, not just the teachers but the directors and administrators - its only when those at the top are held accountable that those below can be forced to behave responsibly. 8 3

The whole system is wrong and good luck to the Thai youth on trying to change it. My wife was a kindergarten teacher at a private school here in Thailand. First day of term a new lad turned up and his dad gave my wife a rolled up newspaper wrapped with duct tape. He told her that if his boy was naughty, she was to use the 'weapon' on him. After the dad (Thai) left, my wife threw it in the dustbin. NB average age of kids in the class - 3 to 4 years old. 3

RJRS1301 Posted November 24, 2020 Posted November 24, 2020 Woul one of the reasons for her actions be Born sadist? Poor anger management skills? Absolute inappropriate role for her? Poor or NON professional supervision? I would suggest that perhaps one should see what the abused children over the years may think is appropriate discipline for her, besides never teach or be near children again 1

Hopefully Trans you were being slightly sarcastic, at least I hope so, what years were you a kid ? About the same as me or thereabouts, so over 50 years ago, but the fact is that in most civilised countries the teachers are forbidden to beat students, but not in Thailand, that suggests to me that Thailand is at a minimum 50 years behind civilisation probably more. Don't misuderstand me, I agree with punishment but it has to be measured & appropriate, not ruling by fear. 1
Popular Post rkidlad Posted November 24, 2020 Popular Post Posted November 24, 2020 Most of this kind of behaviour stems from being unqualified to do the job and inconsistent discipline. I see it a lot with parenting. Being too lazy to keep on top of keeping your kids in line so you just let it slide most of the time. That builds up until the parent or teacher explodes in a rage. Anger is released for a while and then allowed to build up again. Both child and parent are worse off for this. People ask me why I don't have kids. I always tell them I'm not against the idea, I just can't be bothered to be a parent. Most look at me dumbfounded while they try to process what I just said. I explain further that having kids is a full-time job. You have to be willing to put the work in; otherwise, what's the point in having kids? So they can annoy other people? Having kids can be easy. Taking care of them is a whole other thing. Either do it properly or don't do it at all. 5

Crusader Posted November 25, 2020 Posted November 25, 2020 There is never any justified 'reason' for hitting students...with a stick, or anything else. Back in secondary school in England, I once cracked a joke in a music class and the teacher called me out. He had a reputation for hitting students on the hands with a gym shoe. As the shoe came down, I pulled my hand away and said, "Are you sure you want to do this? My dad will be here tomorrow." I was told to sit down...he never used the shoe again - in my time at the school anyway.

I had one too, Mr. Siebler, 50+ years back for 3 years P1, P2, and P3. Kids (boys & girls) who had wrong answers to maths problems got lined up and he quickly went along the line with 2 extremely hard hits of his cane on their writing hand. This happened after every day after maths lessons. Kids who came late (rare) had to wait at the front of the class until they got 2 hard hits of his cane on their writing hand. A couple of time kids (girls & boys) put their hand up to say they needed to urgently go to the toilet. His response was NO and he made them stay in their seats, even into recess or lunch time, until they peeed themselves and they had to sit there until it was end of school day. An inter-school boys sports event (football & cricket) was coming up, the day before the sports day he lined up all the boys in his classes for 2 hard hits with his cane on both hands, and he did this just after lunch and just before end of day. His caning was so hard it broke the skin of many boys and produced blood. His claim was they had not behaved themselves therefore he should punish them so that they couldn't have the pleasure of participating in sports. At end of class the boys he had punished ran to their sports teacher who quickly took them to the headmaster. The police were called. A few days later there was a school assembly (all kids, all teachers, and many parents attended. Publicly the headmaster dismissed the teacher and said he was forwarding a report to the state ed. authorities recommending that he be dismissed totally and never be employed again. The teacher was forced to personally apologize one by ne to every kid in his classes. Several photos of the evil teacher appeared many time in the morning and afternoon local and state newspapers. This caused parent outrage and the school Parents & Citizens Association demanded that there be an unannounced roster of parents sitting in on classes of all teachers. Popular Post ChipButty Posted November 25, 2020 Popular Post Posted November 25, 2020 We had an art teacher who hated me, called me out one day he liked to use the cane he said to me hold your hand out and I said no, by now he's screaming at me and waving this cane at me, I just stood there and said it's not happening, with that he started lashing out at me on my legs, I had no choice so I decked him I remember the punch it was a beauty straight on his jaw, All hell broke and the headmaster and other teachers arrived on the scene, The funny thing was I didn't get expelled 3

LomSak27 Posted November 25, 2020 Posted November 25, 2020 (edited) I'm taking the opposite tack here, I would not be surprised if those students were quite nasty. Sorry if that bursts your bubble. I’ve seen this stick whacking at all the schools I’ve been in. I was quite taken aback the first time I saw it. After asking around about it, I was told that in many cases it’s done with parental consent, and even encouragement.

Sorry of that bursts your bubble. Good to see that teacher instilling discipline. A lot of those students need a good wack upside the head with a T square. You call striking a child discipline. Wow obviously your not a "spare the rod but spoil the child" individual, instead you sound like a person who grew up in a military run household, who was given the rod for saying a course word to your mother or father. Thrashing a child is inappropriate and is a culture that this country has instilled, and still uses daily in institutions and homes. Time to prosecute the hell out of teachers who strike children, as well as holding the administration responsible for a failed leadership role and not holding the teacher to a higher standard. School is where an education should be given, not a beating because the teacher was <deleted> off because their word was challenged. No wonder the kids are protesting, yes they are even being called "Bad Students" by this Government full of dinosaurs who wish to rule the country by fear and prejudice. Wrong century here time to move forward and not backwards. 4 3
