The Department of Disease Control (DDC) has revealed a new Covid-19 cluster from a “big-bike party” in Koh Lanta, with around 10 confirmed infections and 129 people at risk.

A Covid-19 patient travelled from Samut Sakhon on December 9 with two friends to attend the Multistrada Thailand Meeting of Ducati bikers on December 11 in Koh Lanta.

There he came in contact with 133 people, 129 of whom are at high risk and four not at such high risk. All these people have been tracked and contacted as the hotel had registered every partygoer.

So far, 10 cases related to this party have been detected, including the initial one from Samut Sakhon.

Four cases have been found in Krabi, one of whom attended the party in Koh Lanta and then transmitted the virus to his wife, daughter and relative.

One partygoer transmitted the virus to his two sons in Phuket, while two infections were recorded in Songkhla, as one of the big bikers transmitted the virus to his younger sister.

DDC has called on authorities in each province to look out for people who may have attended the Koh Lanta party and passed the infection on to others.

The event was on the 11 december, so 10 days before the discovery of the Samut Sakhon cluster

Interesting. Where did they get it from then?

Samut Sakhon seems to be the starting point, many people have had contact there and have since gone off to other parts of Thailand.

Only when SS had the positives did the rest start to panic.

This does however look to be a stronger strain with contacts passing on the infection at a higher level than before.

More infectious for sure, but i don't think it's a stronger strain

just a different one, maybe less dangerous than the previous

most of the people infected in SS were asymptomatics with

no symptoms at all and it's precisely why it wasn't detected sooner

No tests = no infections = no Covid hot spots = no problem.

Is that the Min of Health policy now?

If they do find a hot spot they will be playing catch up for weeks.

Maybe the Thai ladies who had returned from the Convention Hotel in Talicheck, Myanmar.  Bikers have been known to associate with the Pro's...just saying.

With no new deaths what treatment is Thailand giving to its covid patiants that is different to the rest of the world??? Now please don't tell me they are catching it earlier, the only conclusion is they must be treating them different or it is not as dangerous as the rest of the world is saying. achoo, achoo sorry a little sniffle.

Yep, almost as much as your typical expat or tourist?

Should the index person be an expat on a visa, will the Immigration Offcers be looking at the visa status of the person?
