However, I don't blame them, I blame the corrupt Thai officials who shepherded them over the border in order to make a quick buck. 6

This is now spreading rapidly and the government does not have it under control as they said. Just look at Ratong now and the latest info is they are now in lockdown. Of course the government has it under control, they have passed the buck to the Provincial Governors who can be blamed for over-reacting or under-reacting, the spin being it's not the governments fault if they got it wrong. 2

Rockhound Posted December 27, 2020 Posted December 27, 2020 The first wave last December through March came and went without intervention or panic. That is the best policy. 2 1

JimInPattaya Posted December 27, 2020 Posted December 27, 2020 The problem is now, not March. Lock down now while there is a chance to control the next wave. I drove past some bars last night that are popular with farang. They were busy and almost everyone was without a mask. and zero social distancing. Some farang were kissing the bar "workers". <deleted> were those idiots thinking? Now 90%+ of the local Thais and farang are only wearing masks when they have to go thru a temperature check point. It is probably hopeless to prevent the big wave because you can't fix stupid! 2 1

Maybe instead of buying new submarines or mercedes benz fleets or mia noi holiday, that paying salary of medical researchers, and paying for laboratory and manufacturing capability is a better investment in country. Maybe time to put tax on Chinese tourist to help offset cost of Covid19? Quick Google search and it seems Thailand does have plans for orders of vaccine. https://www.thaipbsworld.com/thailand-has-three-runners-in-global-race-for-covid-19-vaccine/

Someone would think that with thai govermement being the sidekick of the chinese they should have been already getting the chinese vaccine (see sinopharm) but for some reason (finances?) they choose not to do so. Here in Bahrain where I live the goverment already made the vaccine available to public (citizens and residents) free of charge, and since two days ago people now have the choice between the sinopharm or the pfizer vaccine. I already had my first dose (sinopharm) on the 23rd Dec and waiting for the second one on the 13th Jan, haven't expireicend any side effects at all so far. 1
chilli42 Posted December 27, 2020 Posted December 27, 2020 In view of this, it’s hard to understand why new year celebrations are being allowed to go ahead (bars and clubs open). Seems reckless. 1
Mister MXYZPTLK Posted December 27, 2020 Posted December 27, 2020 Thailand has been quite fortunate not to have the massive outbreak felt in other countries. Vaccines are in limited supply and are being distributed to areas in critical condition. once enough vaccines has been manufactured (2 billion is the goal for worldwide) Thailand will start to see arrival in the country. Our supply will most likely come from China as they are the only country that has the capacity to generate 1.5 billions doses. The USA, Europe, Russia, India are all trouble. Expect deaths Worldwide to easily 350,000 possibly reaching 500,000 it ain’t going to be pretty folks. 2021 will be a very bumpy ride until August 1 1
