Overweight people, even youngsters, face same risk from COVID as the old, says Thai doctor

Dr Opass Putcharoen of Chulalongkorn Hospital went on his personal Facebook page to warn overweight people about the risks they face from Covid-19.

Dr Opass said there is a misconception that the virus only really affects the elderly and those with underlying health problems.

The reality is that risks increase with each kilogram that people are overweight.

The more you weigh the more serious are the risks from lung infections and clots.

So much so that the young and obese are at similar risk of serious health complications as the old and infirm, reported Daily News.

Have you ever walked with an obese person? while you stroll they tend to get out of breath. Just imagine what can happen with the stress of a Covid acute infection.

But would should distinguish between factors that favour the onset of the cytokine storm and the ability of the patient to survive it.

I'm surprised that Facebook didn't shut his post down (Factchecked), probably because of the translation.

I have know Dr's post being shut down for less and correct commentary.

Just trying to big not himself, can't compare the young with the old in this situation, although would love to see the science behind his posting, i.e. if there is any, which I doubt.

nice and stereotyping. when you look in to the information available  they forget to tell that they can see in the blood samples if you will have problems with the Covid-19 infection or not. also the SARS-CoV-2 targets on specific genes more then on others. that makes also that some people have nearly not problem and other drop death in just a few hours. This had nothing to do with age or overweigh, people just where 'normal weight' healthy living and just dropped death in 2 to 4 hrs.

children up to 13 have another way the immune systems works  then people above 13. and this is the reason why they have lesser problems.

on Caucasian the vaccine works better study suggest the on Asian. and on Asian works better the on African kind of people. this is seen with other vaccines and medicine too that they work better for Asian or Caucasian and the other way around

this is why they have certain brands of the new developed SARS-CoV-2 vaccines only administered to certain risk groups and age ranges.

What can I say ? I'm oldish - over 65 by a few years, bad back, bad knees, overweight, to late now to change my habits but I will limit my exposure to this virus as much as possible, I can hardly go for a 5 km jog when my body hurts after 500 metres, but hey, life's good, it's warm, the sun is shining, I can eat good food and have a beer, wine or G n T, nowt wrong with that, I have the loveliest of partners who takes great care of me, I don't need anymore than that to be honest.

Life is what you make it ????

Obese people have a lot of challenges in life, but when I seen the Supersized Americans

in their country or abroad, I knew that they flew business or first class as their bodies

are too big for economy class.  I do hope that a lot of them get their vaccines soon as

so many people are dying in the USA.  I guess this virus will affect people of all ages

and I just hope that a lot of seniors make it through this intact as well.

You have a creditable link for that?

The US is number 1 in the Western world for obesity, the claim makes sense to me.

There's no doubt about it. Supersized food and people. .

So. Buy every child a bicycle and let them bike to school and back instead of bringing them with motor bikes and cars. https://bicycledutch.wordpress.com/2013/03/28/amsterdam-bicycle-rush-hour/

Then the road fatalities will be even worse. I cannot even ride around my village without ignoramassies always coming out in front of me. Just imagine all these bicycle riders trying to avoid getting hit by the average Thai driver and motorbike rider.

yep, mostly deciding on drive in, online order, or waddling 100 yards for their  hourly fast food fix.

Lets just for a moment forget about you personally and look at things in general. An old guy at say 70 vastly overweight, with a girl in her thirties and very attractive.

To start with, 99.9% of the time it is financial, even at that, the old fat guy is not going to please her in bed, and young girls (and guys) have needs.

I think you all know the rest.

Forget blue eyes. But here are the facts.

  • Non-Hispanic blacks (49.6%) had the highest age-adjusted prevalence of obesity, followed by Hispanics (44.8%), non-Hispanic whites (42.2%) and non-Hispanic Asians (17.4%).
