Deputy PM Anutin: Plans adjusted to receive COVID-19 vaccine sooner

 

   

BANGKOK (NNT) - The first lot of 2 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine will be given to high-risk groups, including physicians, nurses and other health workers. Deputy Prime Minister and Public Health, Anutin Charnvirakul, says the government has to be sure the vaccine is safe and effective before it can be administered.

 

Mr. Anutin said the vaccine has to be procured quickly because of the recent COVID-19 outbreak. Plans have to be adjusted, so that the country can receive the vaccine doses sooner. The vaccine must be approved by the country of origin, to ensure its effectiveness and safety. Even so, once the doses arrive in Thailand, they still have to go through many procedures.

The first lot will be administered to medical personnel, as they are on the front line in the battle against the outbreak.

 

Doses of the COVID-19 vaccine developed by AstraZeneca will be administered to members of the public. Meanwhile, the government is considering procuring additional vaccine doses. The government is also making sure that there is adequate medical equipment and sufficient supplies of vaccine, and that relevant agencies are ready to deal with emergency situations in a timely manner, such as setting up a field hospital.

The Chinese vaccine is not licensed or recommended for anyone over 60 years old, there have been no trials on anyone outside the 18-59 age group. That is why Indonesia is only vaccinating working age population

There will be lots of delays with the vaccine deliveries. The whole world wants them now.

He was advising westerners to wear masks back in March last year when western countries were telling their citizens not to wear one because they didn’t work and to social distance.

 Meanwhile Boris was roaming hospitals shaking hands with everyone, Trump was refusing to wear a mask and claiming the virus would just magically disappear in April, and Bolsonaro was claiming in was all a left wing hoax. 

 

They all, not surprisingly were personally infected with covid and over 600,000 are dead and 30 million infected in those countries alone.

 

Masks are all mandatory in those countries now with fines for not wearing them. 
If they had listened to the Anutin stern warning hundreds of thousands would have been spared from Covid.
 

Some people got in a huff because he described the farangs who were refusing free masks as “dirty” and also mentioned that some of these backpacking types were a bit shower shy, which has also been my experience, especially when compared to Thai people who very rarely have offensive body ordour. 
 

Sometimes, for some people, the truth hurts. They need to harden up.

 

Acquiring vaccines faster for health workers is a sensible decision. Look how many have died in the west. A tragedy.

Really?  What processes?  Is this just some face-saving stuff to make it seem like Thailand isn't so reliant on foreign countries?  And will these "processes" add any additional risks?

Then they can have plenty of coffee breaks, no doubt with some expensive, rare coffee. Or am I talking out of my (or some animal's) asre again?

Surprise, CP now have been given the go ahead to supply the first vaccines ahead of AstraZeneca. CP increased their shareholding in Sinovac prior to signing the deal

Anutin as obviously had a kick up the A##e for dragging his heels over the procurement of Vaccine.

Maybe the Urgent Vaccines will have some kind of problem with FDA approval, although I doubt it, even if they have not been Stage 3 tested yet.

BTW, he dont look too chipper. Maybe he has seasonal Flu.

    Thailand should already have secured the vaccine and should be giving it to citizens now.  Always slow, slow, slow.  Using the approval nonsense is a lame excuse for inaction.  Private hospitals should be allowed to secure their own vaccines, as well, to provide the vaccine to those who will not be covered under Thailand's medical services.  

Anutin needs to resign asap. He has been in way over his head, since the beginning. Now, he is really showing how incompetent he is. Thailand is NOT in good hands with him as health minister. When you add in Pipat as tourism minister, and Prayuth as PM, you have an emergency situation, even without Covid.

Rather than try it out on front-liners, if the "government has to be sure the vaccine is safe and effective before it can be administered"  let the government be the guinea pigs, after all we wouldn't miss any of them!

The CP involvement explains a lot including perhaps the high price of $17 a dose for a China product (Pfizer and Moderna are $25 and $20 respectively but that is for mRNA vaccines that are more expensive to produce than Sinovac's viral vector product, not to mention that they have to pay Western salaries).  Sinovac is a dubious company that has been involved in bribery and corruption scandals. The Chinese government has not adopted the Sinovac vaccine, opting for the larger and more reputable Sinopharm instead.  So Sinovac is peddling its product around the corrupt third world countries like Thailand, Indonesia, Brazil and Argentina that are prepared to pay a first world price for an untested third world vaccine from a dubious company.

No it's to work out who they're going to sell it to to get the highest kick backs.......But looking on the bright side, all the terrified hi so and government people might just do the job of the protesters and self eliminate so to speak with this rushed through concoction........ Personally i'm sticking to Grouse.....

They have already secured special orders of Pfizer or Moderna for themselves and their families at taxpayer expense and without the need to wait for approval from the corrupt, foot dragging Thai FDA which has already decided to approve the untested Sinovac vaccine.

Must make sure the paperwork is all in order, even if it means thousands dying.

 

Vaccines approved by the EU, USA and UK should be fast tracked and with data sharing this process can go very quickly, if they want it to.

How has he got to position of deputy PM ? The mind boggles !! ????????

Of course the vaccines cannot go through rigorous processes in Thailand without setting up their own trials.  All the Thai FDA can do is review the data submitted by producers to regulators in developed countries which they  probably don't bother to do.  Most likely they would just read summaries of decisions made by the other regulators.  But in the case of the Sinovac vaccine this isn't possible because the trials have not been completed and it may not even be approved in China where the government has selected another vaccine produced by Sinopharm in preference to the Sinovac product.
