Popular Post WineOh Posted January 7, 2021 Popular Post Posted January 7, 2021 (edited) I want to know exactly why they changed their recipe, lowered the alcohol content and decided to discontinue an excellent beer. The old Chang was great, at 6.4% ABV I believe and a lovely smooth taste. This new stuff just doesn't cut it for me. Too gassy, no real taste and too weak. If the sole reason to change their product was to avoid tax (which I suspect it was) then surely they can re-release the old drink as kind of like a niche product? There are other high percent beers available at 7/11 but they just don't taste the same. The old Chang was my drink of choice when it was in the brown bottle. Now I never buy it and it's a real shame ???? Bring back the old Chang now! Edited January 7, 2021 by Liverpoolfan 13 2 7

I would like them to bring it back as it was the only beer that stood out from the rest. The rest all taste alike. 3 1
Popular Post Fat is a type of crazy Posted January 7, 2021 Popular Post Posted January 7, 2021 I must admit I noticed it too. Chang used to be distinctive and had a particular taste and it seemed at some point to become somewhat boring. 5
Popular Post darksidedog Posted January 7, 2021 Popular Post Posted January 7, 2021 I agree with the OP. Chang was my regular beer until they changed it. I could not believe how awful the new weaker beer was and haven't drunk any since. At the time I actually did write to Chang asking them how they could do something so dumb to take a winning formula and change it to garbage, but of course, never received a reply. 5 1

It happened around 2015 I think. 2
WineOh Posted January 7, 2021 Author Posted January 7, 2021 Brown bottled chang was easily my favorite beer in Thailand by a country mile. I would drink it everywhere I went. I would like them, if possible, to bring it back as a sideline niche product. Even if they charge 50/60 baht for a small bottle at 7/11 I will still pay it.
VocalNeal Posted January 7, 2021 Posted January 7, 2021 ^ Have you tried Chang Cold Brew 25 year anniversary?

TSF Posted January 7, 2021 Posted January 7, 2021 Yes, I've noticed it's weaker, watery taste too. I'm actually a Heineken drinker but the M&P shops around me only stock Chang/Leo/Sing so I sometimes buy Chang and as I said notice a difference. 1

The difference is huge (to me at least) hence my taking positive actions to try to persuade them to bring the old one back! I do know some people in the beer business who can help too, and before you ask, I mean people that work in the factories, not the woman selling me the beer at the shop ???? 2 1

Popular Post Natai Beach Posted January 7, 2021 Popular Post Posted January 7, 2021 The old Chang’s alcohol quantity varied considerably. Sometime drink three large ones and feel nothing, other times after three I was well on the way. We would always stock up when we discovered a “hot batch”. 3

Bruce Aussie Chiang Mai Posted January 7, 2021 Posted January 7, 2021 The Sigha "U beer" tastes better, think has more hops. Is cheaper to buy also. When you write the letter enclose a few labels.

2long Posted January 7, 2021 Posted January 7, 2021 Although LiverpoolFan/the OP often starts threads crying out for attention and maybe doused with some made up stuff to add effect, I'm really enjoying some of the content. I remember the one where he drank only wine and lots of it. Then there was the one arguing about happy hour prices in Pattaya. Plus several other memorable rants. Please don't stop, even if they're made up. Oh, on a side note although many Thai men and 'dirty farang' might call me a pussy for drinking weaker/cleaner/pricier beer, I know what I'm doing. The 'taste' of many cheap and strong beers comes from the chemicals added to it. Anyone on this sub-forum should know that you just can't make any alcoholic drink cheaply and quickly while maintaining quality. The cheaper it is the quicker it was made and the higher its ABV. Liver says no. LiverpoolFan says yes please. 'Taste' isn't just on the tongue. 1 1
