The Trump cult has obliterated the line between citizenship and fandom, with deadly results

“Sleep well tonight, patriots . . . You are going to love how this movie ends.”

Those are the words of StormIsUponUs, who posted on Parler on Wednesday encouraging the hundreds of Donald Trump supporters who earlier that day had laid siege to the sanctum sanctorum of American democracy.

the anger of ordinary people is just starting. 4 more years...

Are you still supporting trump's 'stop the steal' agitprop campaign, even though not one bit of fact checked evidence has been provided? Biden will be sworn in on 20/01/21, trump spent a lot of time during the last four years trying to erode presidential accountability and democratic institutions. It is long past due for people to cease the trump BS as some senior republicans have clearly stated and commence a collaborative healing. Due to trump's abject stupidity he will never hold Office again. trump's mealy mouthed words of condemnation of those attacking Capital Hill will not be believed. Quite possibly the fractured Republicans will not regain power for a considerable period of time.

How on earth were they allowed to get in?

The protection of the Congress was assigned exclusively to the Capitol police who number 2,000.  The protesters appear to have numbered as many as 10,000 although some reports put the number at 40,000.  An unknown number of the protesters were armed.  The Capitol police had no riot gear and possibly no training in riot control.  The Trump administration refused to send in the DC National Guard immediately.  It took hours for National Guard troops from Maryland to arrive because the Acting Secretary of Defense refused to authorize their entry into DC.

That's how they were allowed to get in.  The Trump administration had not provided adequate protection unlike when Black Lives Matter marched at the Lincoln Memorial last summer.  On that occasion they had heavily armed troops shoulder to shoulder on the steps of the Memorial.

The Trump administration stood down.

Not good optics. However, let's be realistic - the USA will never convict a US President because of the stain it will make on the office. The office is bigger than politics. No pardon for these people.

I wouldn't bet on this. 45 has gone WAY beyond any norm of the office. Many in Congress (including some Rep's) feel he needs to be made an example of. And most CERTAINLY the SDNY is counting down the seconds to nail him for crimes no presidential pardon can protect him from.

THAT is becoming a point of intense scrutiny. Foreign security is stating it was partially an inside job, an attempted coup.

Security forces did nothing? Maybe you have a Fox or Newsmax filter that blocks the violence perpetrated on peaceful protesters.

There will be plenty of idiots volunteering to take his place. Darwin award winners.

There's been talk about how the rioters weren't really a threat to anyone in the Capitol building. Actually some of them were. These were the parties carrying flexi-cuffs. The plastic zip ties used to bind peoples' wrists usually during mass arrests.

Here's a bit more about them:

"They were not dressed in silly costumes but kitted out in full paramilitary regalia: helmets, armor, camo, holsters with sidearms. At least one had a semi-automatic rifle and 11 Molotov cocktails. At least one, unlike nearly every other right-wing rioter photographed that day, wore a mask that obscured his face."

Was there a plan for hostages or killings at the Capitol? (slate.com)

3 pipe bombs were also found.  Lots of weapons, and people geared up for battle.  The planning for this attack had been going on for weeks.  Stunning how many nuts there are in the US.  Fueled by insane people like this:

Mr Jones pushed the conspiracy theory that antifa was responsible for Trump supporters attacking the US Capitol

These alt right groups need to be stopped.  If you get into their private FB group, posts talk about what they planned to do.  and it was violent.

One such pro-Trump group, the Setauket Patriots, sponsored four charter buses at a cost of $65 per person for the round trip, while another 100 members went in cars, one of the group’s leaders, James Robitsek, told The Point Wednesday.

Also traveling were members of Long Island Loud Majority, with about 20,000 members, and STAY LOUD, which boasts 17,000. All three groups have posted for weeks about their plans to travel to D.C. this week, and starting Tuesday the feeds were giddy with excitement about the trip. Several featured members smiling and waving at a rest stop on the New Jersey Turnpike as they headed south.

Meh, I don't see them as much of a threat.  When the shooting started it took the fight right out of them.  These internet commandos are nothing but a bunch of cowards and should be treated like low the life criminals they are.

They only got in because the capital police acted like a bunch of incompetent mall cops and many are obviously sympathetic to the cause.  Every last one of them should be fired.

One thing this takeover and the aftermath proves, the elites, both Republican and Democrat, as well as the social media gatekeepers (Jack and Zuckerberg) are terrified of Trump.  Permanent suspension from FB and Twitter?  No need at all for that.  At most until Jan 20.

Maybe Trump has something on the elites.  Who knows.

gosh, you left out the fawning reference to her 14 years in the air force, and the "murder" of this true patriot and veteran....as that somehow excuses her misguided decision to join a mob of extremist rioters in sacking the united states congress.

After all, 45 DID rub elbows on many occasions with Epstein (who did NOT, by the way, kill himself). So did many of those elites.

i'm fine with throwing them all in jail, but not in the same jail.  lol.

BUT.......there were no charges when buildings were burning and broken into in Portland, Seattle, and other cities just a few months ago.

I get the difference.....people were inside the building.  OK, well, then put them in jail longer.

but was anyone arrested over the summer??

Gotta love it.  You reap what you sow...even lost his nut job book deal.

Josh Hawley's ploy to be a pro-Trump hero results in withering blowback

Hawley is now a pariah among many of his colleagues, openly derided and mocked in his home state and a source of shame for longtime political supporters who helped propel him to his position.

And in the wake of the insurrection, which took the lives of five people, multiple newspapers in Hawley's home state either blamed the senator for the chaos or called on him to resign his seat.

Do you not think about the stain on the Oval Office and the USA that Trump has made over the last 4 years really requires Trump to be severely punished for the damage he personally has caused?

2x,xxx lies and counting, alienating allied partners, unilaterally tearing up treaties, causing a massive split between the people in the USA? Not to mention actively encouraging his so called "supporters" to attack, damage and partly destroy the US Congress?

THAT is the stain that Trump is leaving on the Oval Office.

He does not deserve a pardon but a trial for sedition.

And yes, permanent suspension for repeatedly inciting violence.

This means he is facing state charges and not federal, right? Which is very good news.
