A leading academic at Thailand's oldest university faculty has urged his compatriots to be patriots and get vaccinated against Covid-19.

If enough people behave with the future of the country in mind then the virus can be run out of Thailand.

The stirring call comes from the dean of the faculty of medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, Dr Prasit Wattanapha.

He reckons that if 70% of all people in Thailand have immunity it's goodbye to Covid.

Channel 7 reported that some Thais fear the vaccine and others fear Covid.

A vaccine must be safe and effective. Twenty companies are working on four different kinds of vaccine

I’m not sure how 42m people (around 70% of the population) can get vaccinated with 14m doses (the number the government has apparently ordered).

I don't think they have enough vaccine to do 25% (2 shots each) of people let alone get it to 70% (should be minimum 80% ) and their own wont be ready until at least May from what they have said before .

The future of the country in mind? Tell that to the generals who have dropped the ball on vaccine purchase and just make excuses as to why, instead of taking responsibility for the fact and pulling their fingers out to get as many doses as possible, delivered, as soon as possible! Thats what the people of Thailand want!

Should this not be the government's job to provide the taxpayer with the vaccine at no cost?

What has your question got to do with the content of the article?

So, what happens to people like my daughter, who lives here, and was severely vaccine injured? She cannot ever receive another vaccine. I hope whoever is making the rules takes this into consideration.

These are expensive however so doubt they'll be available in Thailand

I did read somewhere that vaccination is voluntary.

How much are they charging? I haven't been around here much recently and may have

missed the announcement.

That was when they were confident that the AZ vaccine was to be delivered and then manufactured in Thailand though.

Didn't that all hit a brick wall last week? ????

Read this and you're as up to date as I am.

He acknowledges them as compatriots therefore they cannot become patriots.

That is, until someone will come in with some new mutation of the virus and than its hello again Covid 20,

Thailand was gold until those arrivals from Burma and other neighboring countries came in and re ignited the whole covid business all over again...

General public not even in plans for vaccination until Jan 2022

The government on Tuesday also announced its timeline for the vaccination drive

Phase 1 will run from February to April, focusing on vulnerable populations living in five provinces hardest hit by the virus and frontline healthcare workers.

Phase 2, from May to December, will expand to vulnerable groups in the rest of the country.

Phase 3, is for the general public. It won’t start until January 2022, health officials said.

I wasn't aware the vaccine gave one a 100% immunity over Covid.  I was under the view based upon medical research and the trials that the vaccines increased the persons ability to create a spike protein and then creating the immune system to make antibodies which can assist in fighting of the virus.  It is at this point unknown how long the immunity might last.

Do you understand Herd Immunity?

The article does state free but it is for the Sino Chinese vaccine when it comes to that I'm glad I'm not a citizen I will hold off and wait and gladly pay for the option of my choice.

My Thai wife, son, his wife has already told me even if it is free have no intention of getting the Sino. Personally I want to see Chan O and all government take the Sino jab first!  It is nice you want to give it for free a product that doesn't even have a final studies just ask Brazil they still waiting for the final data even the ingredients from China.????

Sorry but that is your interpretation. The article actually says ''PM Prayut Chan-o-cha has repeated his pledge to vaccinate half the population for free in 2021''.

The reason why he can only promise to vaccinate half the population is because there will not be enough vaccines, of any origin, to do vaccination for everyone in the current year. This has been made clear many times recently.

I have read elsewhere that vaccination is voluntary, so your family are free to choose as they wish. As things stand, my wife and I have decided not to bother at all as we do not feel under threat from this virus.

Stay safe.

As always you are confused about what is being written LOL ???? It is about interpretation of the article!

I noted to you yes free, did I mentioned anything about his promise to vaccinate half? no mentioned by me as to whether there was enough vaccine or not?

My post was basically to confirm that it is in fact free as you directed everyone to the article I do agree but I made no mentioned and surely didn't make the wrong interpretation to anything it free end of story nothing more needs to be added that isn't relevant!  Same stay safe that is all we can do for now.
