Optimism as number of new COVID-19 cases in Thailand falls for third consecutive day

 

 

Thailand reported 237 new coronavirus cases on Sunday, a significant fall in the number of new cases in recent days.

 

Nearly all of the new cases were again discovered during testing of migrant workers at quarantine facilities and hospitals in Samut Sakhon.

 

Of the new cases, 107 were discovered in Samut Sakhon via active contact tracing, while 95  were so-called ‘walk-ins’ discovered from people reporting to hospital. 12 cases were imported from people entering quarantine.

 

Thailand’s Centre for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) also reported that 668 people were discharged from hospital having made a full recovery.

 

6,350 people remain in hospital or held in a migrant worker quarantine centre. No new deaths were reported.

 

Sunday’s cases bring the total number of COVID-19 infections in Thailand to 23,371, with 79 deaths.

Are they running short of test kits? One reason positive tests might decline.

and the walk-ins continue.  If in Bangkok and the western section then its time for more widespread testing I would presume.  However, if its not widespread as Sheryl has said it would be a waste of money to test more.  However, I find things to have a transparency issue.

Optimism is a good thing. I'll take it. Better than being locked down when there are no vaccines to be had.

The number of walk ins seems to be on the rise is that why they are optimistic?

Until they perform a 100,000 tests in Bangkok (like they do in many cities) to see the level of spread of the virus in the city then it's safe to assume it's out there. 

 

The number reporting to go into hospitals from outside the migrant camp is going up. crazy. 

 

It's basically ALL OVER.

Walk in hospital cases is a worry. Means they don't have this under control.

Optimism is not a good thing when it replaces common sense and intelligent action. 

 

Every child thinks he can be a professional athlete. Children are optimistic in this way.

I think it is useless to make a today vs yesterday comparison as there are sometimes huge outliers. Far better to look at, for instance, a 7 day moving average to discern the trend.

Yeah thats the one ive been watching the last few weeks, and seems like one of the highest number of walk-in cases in a long time. 

 

113 people who are sick enough to have symptoms and report to the hospital, for a virus that that a large percentage are asymptomatic and dont even know they have it. 

 

Alot can be implied from that.

Most walk-ins are still in Samut Sakorn - showing just how widespread it is. If there was "community spread" across Bangkok, the numbers would be much higher.

 The virus doesn't have borders.

A lot can be implied by people who know nothing about the subject. Nothing can be deduced from that. The vast majority of proactive cases are from Samut Sakhon as are the vast majority of walk in cases. In Samut Sakhon many areas are in lockdown and isolation. Bangkok is the only other area with significant numbers of cases. Maybe it would be prudent to isolate and lockdown Bangkok?

You prefer "intelligent action" that ends up with covid testing sweeps, where Chinese-style you're whisked off the streets and put into quarantine costing you 100,000 baht?  Not me.

As far as i can see Samut Sakhon is not locked up from the outside world. I know people who have been to that area and are in Bangkok now.

It fluctuates, but it's fairly consistent.  if it stays above 100 for a couple of weeks, then it means something's changed.

 

Nothing to worry about just yet.

I'd really like to see the number of tests conducted.  Without both figures how can you tell if there is a decline in people testing positive or just a decline in testing?

They keep saying they've "isolated" the migrant workers in Samut Sakhon, but the majority of the hospital "walk-ins" when we get the detail appear to be listed as Foreigners or non-Thai, surely isolated means not being able travel to hospital.

Maybe they don't test enough but the figures of hospitalizations and deaths are genuine.

No reason to panic in Thailand ????

 

I don't try to understand why it's different in Thailand, I just look the facts: that virus doesn't kill that much here.
The whole world is pessimistic but those who live in Thailand must remain optimistic.
