I think that if TripAdvisor didn't, they themselves could have been dragged into being sued by the Farang, as they have a duty of care towards those that use the site and post reviews, good on them anyways, these defamation laws as someone said earlier, are only there to mussel people while the rich get away with everything.

   Correct.  They should have phoned Olivia Pope immediately--she of 'Scandal' fame.  She would have advised a profuse apology, some sort of compensation to the guest, and a sincere statement vowing to do better in the future when the hotel reopens after it's 3 month closure for improvements to be made.  Always better to get out in front of bad news like this and bend it in as positive a direction as possible.  The public is forgiving--if asked for forgiveness.  Vindictiveness like this rarely works and just keeps the negative story alive much longer--with more damage.

Probably because he is right about that and fed up with that company. We are observing the same behavior from the same company regarding a property . They still  charge the monthly fees but reduced the maintenance staff to around or less than 20 % from a couple years ago. No need to say you can see the difference as  result of this.

Trip adviser gets away with a lot of BS. Best is to ignore them when you get a bad review, even it is full of lies.

That sounds ridiculous. The law enforcement should take some legal actions against the hotel not against the guest.

The department for public health should make an unexpected visit to check it.

Then if the the guest was right, they should shut it down as in other countries, and not blame the guest for defamation.

 

With that, they lose the rest of their reputation.

I don't know which hotel it is or if the feedback is true, but certainly all the photographs and complaints document the situation well.
After koh Chang with the complaint of the American by the Sea View here is another one. Spend money for legal actions, then from the next days and forever, you will have this wonderful warning message on the  Tripadvisor page as a guarantee for the future customers: "This hotel or individuals associated with this hotel filed criminal charges against a Tripadvisor user in relation to the traveler writing and posting online reviews. The reviewer spent time in jail as a result. Tripadvisor serves its users best when travelers are free to share their opinions and experiences on our platform – both positive and negative. The hotel may have been exercising its legal rights under local law, however, it is our role to inform you so you may take this into consideration when researching your travel plans."

Why not just clean and renovate it? That would do better than blame the guest.

I think the guy has good reason to complain reading the amount of complaints he made

You would have thought the Government who are paying for these hotels with public money would have them checked out regularly for cleanliness  and food hygiene up to a reasonable  standard

Trip Advisor paid for the legal costs of the ‘other guy’ who recently made the headlines after leaving going on somewhat of a vendetta against a hotel in Koh Chang - the guy had to publicly apologise and TripAdvisor had to agree to remove their reviews but had the last laugh circumnavigating the agreement with a ‘Message from Trip Advisor’ on the hotels TripAdvisor Site... 

 

The defamation laws in Thailand do nothing other than drag the country down - no good whatsoever comes of them the only serve the wealthy and powerful in their abhorrent business practices. 

Come on Thailand, you are better than this! Be fair, be honest, be open to the truth. You can only expect people's RESPECT when you adhere to the GREAT doctrine of Karma!
