PHUKET: Phuket is the perfect testbed for allowing vaccinated tourists who undergo rapid testing on arrival to enter the country on holidays, Bill Heinecke, founder and chairman of the Minor Group, told a seminar held at Laguna Phuket yesterday (Feb 19).

Allowing the return of vaccinated tourists who undergo rapid testing is the only way to safely reopen the country to tourism, Mr Heinecke said, noting that quarantine was “killing” any prospects of restarting tourism and helping to reboot the economy.

Mr Heinecke said he was “very honoured” to be at the ’Phuket Roundtable’ event, chaired by Phuket Tourist Association President Bhummikitti Ruktaengam, and joined by a host of leading representatives from Phuket’s tourism and other industries, as part of the united push to reopen Phuket to international tourists by Oct 1, under the campaign #PhuketfirstOctober.

More HiSo ownership maybe, and the tourists are maybe going to be stuck on the island, can you imagine how high we can make the prices.

The fight for customers seems to get more important than the fight against corona. And the winner is...?

If you've been fully vaccinated you don't need a test.

After vaccination or infection there is no other measure to fight the virus - that's it.

Whatever happens after full vaccination is what we live with forever, doing tests won't help anything or anyone.

What is the penalty for testing positive after being vaccinated? Two weeks in prison camp?

Exactly. Sri Lanka is doing it. Tourists are free to hang out at the hotels and go on tours. The stipulation is they don't mingle with locals for the first 14 days.

Easily accomplished with some good planning.

Because Phuket is the only province which is an island, with an international airport and a big road bridge linking it to the mainland. One way in, one way out.

The rest of Thailand would be near impossible to control in an outbreak.
