TAT targets China, Japan and Korea, confident 10 million tourists will visit Thailand this year

Thailand's tourism authorities are putting their faith in celebrities, reality TV stars, net idols and influencers to get millennials flooding into Thailand, reported the Thai media.

TAT partners in China, Japan and Korea are working on the "Thailand I Miss You" project.

Tourism Authority of Thailand governor Yutthasak Suphaorn was quoted as saying that 10 million tourists - presumably this year - would be "mai yaak"- no problem.

They want to come and Thailand is still a target for them, he said.

He has ordered all TAT offices abroad to work on things concentrating on facilitating visits for those who have already been vaccinated.

Top of the list is China with the TAT waiting for the government there to give the green light to its nationals to travel.

Pipat Ratchakitprakan - Thailand's tourism minister - expects foreign tourists to arrive from the start of the 3rd quarter - July 1st would be D-Day for that.

He ordered the TAT offices abroad to update every two weeks on individual countries' vaccine programs and readiness to open up to foreign tourism.

Asia Pacific marketers have been busy putting together packages and have reportedly received a strong response with particularly those in Japan attracted by promotions from "Series Y".

Chiang Mai and Phuket packages were proving particularly attractive reported the media.

All this can be yours if the price is right!

*Note: not all rooms have a window.

Wait now: 30 million this year or 10 million? Was it 1 000 per month or 10 000 per day?

Do we think it will take 1 month or 3? Wait, maybe it will be back or track this year or take another 3 year.

Yeah, yeah, who knows? Nevermind, where is my paycheck for this month? Will give you a new dream tomorrow.

I have zero respect for TAT but, if you think about it, after a grim year of lockdown, the demand is certainly there for exotic foreign vacations.

It goes without saying, the testing, insurance, and quarantine requirements are a non-starter. Any quarantine at all, even reduced to 7 nights or whatever, means no actual tourists, just a trickle of desperate guys trying to get back to their girlfriends.

If, however, they replace those requirements with a simple requirement that all visitors have completed a full course of vaccination at least two weeks before arrival, well, in that case, they could start opening up to certain countries, such as Israel, by April.

So far, China has vaccinated only 60 million, Japan hardly any, and South Korea I don't know. By the Summer, however, the picture is likely to be far better. There might be a billion people around the world, mainly clustered in populations that tend to visit Thailand, who will have completed their course of vaccination.

At full capacity, Thailand was supposedly serving 40 million tourists per year. If the demand is there, and if entry is easy again, I don't see why they wouldn't be able to manage ten million over the second half of this year.

'serving 40 tourists per year.'

While I realise it was an omission, you obviously don't work for TAT - I'm sure they would never accidentally under-estimate the number of tourists!

Thanks bluesofa, fixed.

Perhaps that was my subconscious disagreeing and adjusting my estimates ????

Even if millions of tourist come this year they will experience and report back the new 4th season, the smog season! So retro-70's!

For the 100th time. Why does Thailand just presume foreign governments will allow people to travel to an unvaccinated country? Thailand truly believes it's the best and only place in the world. Get your population vaccinated, stop just announcing figures.

I think i'd wait until I see how the Sinovac works in Thailand before planning to have back more Chinese ! Maybe they should try infecting those that have had sinovac with covid to see if it actually works or if just more fake goods from China

That's 33,000 a day starting from now.

I suppose if your un educated numbers really don't mean anything.

You know your making yourselves look like absolute idiots for just reporting this constant stream of BS.

They obviously haven't given any thought as to how the millions of tourists will get to Thailand ! Or will Thai airways make an incredible recovery and return to the skies with their new master plan ?

There's a good article in the latest Economist about China's vaccine rollout, or rather the lack of it, even though they started last summer.

I've attached it as a two-page PDF file, and you can see why we're not likely to see any large numbers of Chinese tourists arriving this year.

EconomistUS - 20 Feb-pages-35-36.pdf

An average of 250,00 per week starting NOW! The Golden Horde.......

A year is a long time. Maybe last quarter of 2021 after vaccine has reached many places and people it may well be possible.

Just shut up already. These mindless bits of “news” from TAT are nothing more than absurd propaganda and blatant lies. One after the other.

One day you need to stop dreaming, have some intelligence and stop cooking the Books. The Thai Baht should be at least 40 Baht to the AUD by now. You say the economy is now worse than 1997.......so what was the Thai Baht to AUD then ? The world is not stupid.

Anyone with any slight form of intelligence would boycott Chine altogether !
