Aussie cars in Thailand

Featured Replies

One of the only things I miss about Australia is the cheap rear wheel drive full sized V8 cars. Even  an Aussie six would be better than most of what is available.

Australia used to sell a lot of cars in Thailand before our government signed an FTA with Thailand. It led to about 20% of vehicles on Aussie roads now being Thai made and eventually all the local manufacturers in Australia closing down.

The dopey Aussie government employees obviously were too lazy to read the small print which taxes engines over 2.5 liters which made Aussie made cars too expensive. Maybe the Thais took them down to Nana Plaza to distract them?

Anyway this thread is for Aussie made cars in Thailand.

To celebrate the opening of the Ford Falcon assembly plant in Thailand 5 Falcon GTs were built.

All in GT silver and with the XW bonnet blackouts and red GT stripe.

Only two are known to have survived.

XA-XC Falcons were also assembled in Thailand.
A mate reckons he saw a two door in Bangkok once. I am skeptical as he has bad eyes and drinks a lot.
I have never seen any evidence of one.

If you read the OP you will see that they don’t make new rear wheel drive V8s in Australia anymore.
The factories all closed up mate a few years back now.

Is this thread a contest for the ugliest car ever produced.

I'm a classic car enthusiast, but from all pictures I have seen in this thread, almost all of them you would not be allowed to drop them on my driveway if they were free.

Jeez, now I know why Australia doesn't have any car factories any more.

Lots of twin cam Toyota V8's available here. Able to increase power a lot while still being reliable.

Stuff one in the car/truck of your choice.

Cheap and fun - and you will have something unique, not just another ... (insert model here)

And not a new model with 9 computers and no way to adjust anything without a Cray - if then. And a right Bee Itch to work on.

Aren’t a lot of those old cars some sort of partnership with American companies (like GM)?  Where are the Chargers, Camaros and Cudas?  Or did Australia only get the design rejects?

GM car exec from the 60s/70s....”Nope...too ugly...send it to Holden”
