Thailand reported 149 new COVID-19 infections on Tuesday

Of the new cases, 144 were local transmissions, while 5 were imported from people entering quarantine.

However, a further 65 people were discharged from hospital having made a full recovery.

786 people remain in hospital or held in a migrant worker quarantine centre.

Tuesday’s cases bring the total number of COVID-19 infections in Thailand to 27,154, with 87 deaths.

Slight spike. Thats almost double yesterday's.  I wonder if I could get away with saying I only had a slight increase in my bank account when it nearly doubled.

The bigger question is, are these the cases from the Ban Kae market cluster. Apparently 100 cases were from Bangkok.

If you had one Baht in your account and doubled it, I'd say that was a slight increase.

Of course if one was a poor person that would be pragmatic. Talking about Covid-19 cases I would say anywhere from a few more to maybe 25% more from the day before would be a slight increase but to nearly double that's not a slight increase in my book.

Think it is linked to the rise in testing they are currently doing, currently total tests 1.6 million with around 27K cases, so work out if you had to test the other 68 million what the total cases would be!!!

Thailand and the UK have similar population but Thailand has tested 41.47 test per 1000 of their population and the UK has tested 1469.43 per 1000 of population which quite a large difference.

Fortunately , your bank account cannot affect other people bank accounts - unlike covid affecting other people if not checked

When the Bang Khae Market outbreak was first notified in the press. I am sure that I read there were 676 confirmed cases.

I am wrong, or are they all a negative  now

Considering much of Europe is entering a "third wave" and going back into lockdown, 150 or so new cases seems deminimis to me.

Like the difference between vaccinating 24.5m people so far (UK) and whatever Thailand has managed.

Where are you finding the numbers tested, please?

Bangkok: 90 Covid+ discovered by proactive testing (contact tracing?) & 10 hospital walk-ins.

Not, sorry to say, insignificant. Doc friend at Chula is guessing 5%.

Thanks. I never scrolled to the right side. The website I've been using https://ncov2019.live/data/asia has now added testing, too.

It would sure be good to have some transparency on testing, or lack thereof. Let's keep an eye on those columns & see if the testing number goes up as Covid+ cases certainly are.

If you don't test for it, you won't find it.

IMO the government should be visiting EVERY market in the country on market days. In the big village we have a Monday afternoon/evening market, Wednesday morning and Saturday afternoon. The same market people go to different villages in the mornings and afternoons.

We also have a small local daily market. This is just on village in rural Kamphaeng Phet. If they repeat that across all of rural Thailand the results may show up the government Covid test records and they will lose more face, which is what they fear the most,

Thailand has finally managed one or two generals after a lot of huffing and puffing ????

many have had multiple tests over the last year, the stst stilllook grim with almost 2000 times more deaths in UK than here which is still double Vietnam.

Of course if Bangkok suprspreaders occur and Songkran travel allowed we will see how resilient the health service is.

As ever in Thailand a policy, immunisation has been mired with money, face and poor PR and a lack of abity to listen to experts.

Even if some die from side effects the societal net herd benefit of vaccines is well known to all but the most obtuse.I imagine once a few Hi-Sos are victims they'll get jabbing.Few tourists will choose to visit unvaccinated places over those done regardless of cost , quarantine and dual lipa pricing for trendies.
