Thailand's immigration chief told the Thai media yesterday that everything was under control after 400 illegal migrants caught Covid-19 in his detention centers.

Lt-Gen Sompong Chingduang was reported by Daily News as saying that the public could have confidence in their procedures and protocols. Everything was of an international standard.

They would be looked after and no one was going anywhere until they are better.

The 400 were part of 1,450 people being held in detention.

Now 99 are in a field hospital and 301 are in Bang Khen detention center (where the outbreak mostly began).

They are under 24 hour medical supervision said the IB chief.

Pol Maj-Gen Achayon Kraithong acting as spokesman chipped in that the field hospital had been up and running for three days now and everything was running smoothly.

A problem with it being too hot in the afternoon was addressed. Mental health professionals were working there and all was good among the detainees.

Body temperatures were all under 37.5C.

Pol Col Surasak Surinkaew also commented on social media reports that two Vietnamese - a man and a woman - caught Covid in detention and were then released.

This was untrue he said. While it was true that they were released awaiting movement to a third country it was very unlikely they had contracted the virus in detention due to the timeframe.

They tested positive on March 24th but their last contact had been with immigration on February 28th and March 1st.

Chaps give the IB chaps a break...they have confirmed it`s under control why should we doubt it.....????

Well because......oh your right, they do a good job of bashing themselves, flipping keystone cops.

So these numbers are not included in the daily reports then I would surmise.  Nice way to keep them all locked up.  All under control I don't think so...

They were included in the daily total a few days back.

When was that Sheryl, I don't remember any days within the past week where there were over 400 cases shown, but then I could be wrong.  The one big day I do remember was from Ban Kae and that cluster.

Contains 337 of the IB cases. remainder appear in  subsequent days.

Best source as always is the CCSA briefings   on the MFA youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uPemfz-Q1dE

Pretty sure that if that 30% rate was in the rest of the migrant population - and tested for - it would be far more than the reported rate

For the Public to be confident the IB is running everything to an International Standard, there would have been a report of ZERO cases of Covid in their Detention Centers.

This is a long way from an International Standard.
