BANGKOK (NNT) - The Permanent Secretary for Public Health says COVID-19 vaccinations are proceeding as targeted, urging public cooperation by explaining that if 60 percent of the population is inoculated the country can reopen to tourism and economic opportunities.

Permanent Secretary of Public Health Dr. Kiattiphum Wongrajit remarked in an interview on the importance of the COVID-19 vaccine that the Ministry of Public Health has distributed doses to target areas and groups, and vaccination is proceeding according to plan, adding that Samut Sakhon was one of the first to receive vaccinations as it was the source of the most recent outbreak. He urged those in the province who received their first dose to return for a second to boost their immunity.

The Permanent Secretary announced that it is the government’s intention to safely reopen the nation, making inoculation of the public crucial, explaining that 60 percent vaccination across the country or in the provinces would allow for reopening. He encouraged all citizens to seek vaccination for the sake of the Kingdom, its businesses and its tourism, allying concerns by saying that the vaccinations chosen for distribution were vetted for quality, safety and appropriateness to the country. The government has acquired over 73 million doses, comprising 2 million from Sinovac with 5 million pending and 61 million from AstraZeneca with 5 million pending due to vaccines owed for the country’s sponsorship of research.

OK, so tell them where they can go to get it today or tomorrow, next week or even next momth!

You can't, can you!  ????

within a month only some 100k vax were given, even if there was stock in hospitals.

that well might mean, they can't organise this program properly.

so no point of urging people to vax, if distribution and administration doesn't work.

"for the sake of the Kingdom" sounds in this context very inappropriate.

if further blunders are made (like no thai made supply of vax or substandard quality), people might lose faith in kingdom

Surveys in progress by private hospitals checking the expat community for need.  Are the government hospitals going out to their locals to see how much is needed and maybe do a mobile vaccination clinic?

"The government has acquired over 73 million doses...."

I think they're confusing acquired with ordered.

I'll mark october 2023 in my calender

In yesterdays news the number was 50 percent, now it's up to 60 percent, and getting closer to the 70 percent herd immunity that experts normally talks about; however, I presume they need more the 73 doses for dual vaccination, simple maths gives 36.5 million vaccinated people out of 69 million, which in my calculation is just around 53 percent...????

What a fantastic news day:

  • Thailand has acquired 73million vaccines
  • Thailand will be the space hub for Asia
  • Thailand will have 1million EV on the road by 2025
  • Thailand will have 40million International tourists by 2024
  • Thailands high speed rail network is ahead of schedule

All is well in the Kingdom.

If they want to open up after 60% vaccinated, that means about 41,400,000 vaccinations. At current rate of 100,000 a month, that will take just under 34 years - for first dose !

For Thailand to vaccinate 41,400,000 by October opening, they need to be vaccinating something like 7 million a month. I have more faith in a space program than that. So either they will have to run with less vaccinated or delay

60% to open up for tourism but the sandbox model in Phuket was saying 70% needed for herd immunity. From what I've read the scientists think it's somewhere between 70-90% for covid-19. Amazing Thailand , the land of moving numbers.

Jesus wept.  No the government has NOT 'acquired' 73 million doses.  Don't we wish!  The government has only 'acquired' 2 million doses so far, enough for just 1 million people.  Sometime way, way down the road--maybe June--some more vaccine in numbers worth bothering about might finally be 'acquired'.   Or, not.  What the government has 'acquired' is the ability to produce vaccine story after vaccine story, day after day, planning ad infinitum what they are going to do with this tiny batch of 2 million doses.  This is today's story.

Health Ministry encourages public to seek COVID-19 vaccination

"Get your vaccinations that won't be available until June today!!!  Somehow.  Some way.  Maybe...."

The BP stated yesterday that only 54,000 people have been  vaccinated in Thailand, only Vietnam has fewer, even Myanmar has vacciated twice as many despite all its troubles,

Even the World Bank has stated that Thailand is way behind other Asian Countries and will affect the Countries GDP.
