webfact Posted March 31, 2021 Posted March 31, 2021 Colourful MP Pareena Kraikupt has gone down in history as the first person to be indicted for “grave ethical offences” under the new anti-corruption law, for her alleged encroachment on state forest in Ratchaburi. The indictment means Pareena is already suspended from Parliament. Last Thursday, the Supreme Court’s Criminal Division for Political Office Holders ordered her to stop performing her duties as an MP. What are the charges? The National Counter Corruption Commission (NACC) found Pareena guilty of gravely violating ethical standards. She has been indicted on two charges: pursuing a personal interest that conflicts with her public duty as an MP, and “committing an act that undermines the dignity of an MP pursuant to the ethical standards issued for judges and persons holding important posts”. Popular Post internationalism Posted March 31, 2021 Popular Post Posted March 31, 2021 surely, just losing her sit in parliament is not adequate punishment. People get 15 years sentences for picking mushrooms in the forest or are killed (forced disappearance of Billy in kaeng krachan national park) for picking up wild honey. Surely, in her case, there must be fake title deeds, fake permission to build commercial buildings. Most probably she cut trees, as that land was a forest, some over 700 rais must have many trees and a small fortune in itself, no matter what kind of trees. So she had many accomplices in the land office and many other governmental agencies. Most probably they were bribed into giving her multiple permits to run business for many years. It's not only farm, but she tries conceal her wealth. She is still hiding land bought for her relatives, under their names. She is facing now some 20 years prison. Shame she was nominated by her party to a political post. Shame she sat at parliament for some 1.5 years after investigation started and 6 months after being indicted 6

I don't think she's alone in the above.

Yes, but by the sounds of it, she is the first one to be getting charged seriously over it. What a funny anomaly that it should happen to a female parliamentarian first though. I guess we can safely assume theres been zero male politicians /fatcats/dinosaurs/ who had the nerve to do such things.. over the past several years.????

It could well be. It could also be an indicator of a next wave of indictments of pro-democracy MPs for various reasons. And as the original article states: "However, if Pareena is not convicted by the court, she will be able to resume her MP duties." 1
