Thai govt confirms list of approved vaccines for foreigners to enter Thailand with reduced quarantine

Looks like an April the 1st joke, foreign tourists 7 days, those who have not been vaccinated 10 days and those from Africa 14 days ????‍♂️ Make no sense whatsoever and besides that, many countries will not allow their citizens to travel abroad,.specially to countries who are yet to vaccine their own people. Have a Thai friend who returned and went into quarantine few weeks back and a case was reported in the hotel they stayed at ,when asked what happened to them - all she knew was they were removed and nothing reported in the news, people just want transparency and honesty ‘ personally believe these latest remarks come after seeing that Thailand has become the worse performing country in Asia ( good news for tourists with the baht weakened )

Hopefully all this complete and utter nonsense will be over by October !

Aha! I should imagine that it will be just getting into its stride by then. There is a lot of officialdom from a variety of agencies to get through in the" 5 minutes in front of the cameras" stakes.

Let us see:

venue arranged - check

press notified of important announcement - check,

yellow "chut Thai" or best tightest uniform pressed - check,

giant bouquet arranged with florist - check,

vinyl backdrop ordered ( long waiting list now mind you since Big Joke is back in business ???? ) - check,

script prepared? Aha, knew there was something, get that pretty new intern downstairs to knock something up, doesn't really matter what it is, in fact, get her a frock and she can sit at the table on my left, that will impress the lads - check.

"Jobs a good un, when are we booked in? Oh we're near the top of the list are we? Good oh, some time in mid October then..."

There is no mention of the need to get vaccinated within 3 months of your arrival in Thailand. Also, no mention of the $100,000 insurance including COVID-19 requirement. Plus, if you get vaccinated(with proof), why do you need to have a negative PCR test before flying? And if you are vaccinated, why do you need another PCR test while in quarantine? Finally, if you're vaccinated(with proof) why are you quarantied at all, except to make ASQ hotels increase their bottom line?

The average tourist comes for 14 days of which 7 days minimum would be holed up like a prisoner in quarantine which the individual has to pay for 40,000 baht minimum who in there right mind is going to come on holiday to Thailand . April Fools day has passed and gone !

Next question, what will constitute an acceptable proof of vaccination when there is currently no systematic certification in many countries, and no globally accepted documentation beyond the old yellow book, which can be easily counterfeited.

That is literally stated right there in the OP, immediately before your post:

"a valid vaccine certificate, an original paper or a print-out of an online vaccine certificate"

If you've ever spent time on Kao San Road, you'd appreciate how dodgy that statement is.

I could print out thousands of exact duplicates of the vaccine certificate I received, with a simple laser printer and some card stock.  If I can do it, some entrepreneurial forgers will do it.

There's going to have to be some standardization and/or some way to authenticate any vaccine certificate.  So far, it doesn't exist.

More to the point which one gets banned for the 0.0000001% blood clots ?

Interesting study in Denmark.........they believe some af the side effect problems are coming from the intramuscular injections not being aspirated.

Intramuscular injections should be aspirated to ensure it goes into the muscle, not the blood stream.

However, around the world this is not being done........

I had to look that up.  Sounds like a old wives tale.  They're very backwards in Denmark.  Probably think you need to use wooden shoes while administering the vaccine, too.

Seriously, "aspiration" of an injection is NOT a modern medical practice. ????

Not to worry.  Just the 7 day quarantine will knock out 95% of genuine tourists.  The ones who take their precious vacation days and head off for a couple of weeks to spend their money like there's no tomorrow.

Depends how many days you were allowed to carry over from 2020 that went unused. Add those to your 2021 days, and the 10 days in Quarantine (let alone 7) aren't a big issue.

(Unless you're American and you only get 2 weeks holidays).

Interesting, no Russian vaccine who one of the biggest tourist group.

Yes, and Russian vaccines are reported as performing better than most.

The bit about tourists will not qualify if they are from a country with a mutated strain, gets me, just about all countries have had a case of a mutated strain, including NZ and Australia, Europe is full of mutated strains, so I guess this plan is up for review already.

Next plan please.

I'm sure the counterfeiters and brown envelope brigade have a solution

It's getting a little bit closer to reality...now a fully vaccinated visitor to LOS will only need to spend 7 days in a government approved lock down facility rather than 14 days!  Keep up the good work, you just might yet attract a handful of really desperate tourists, who have nothing better to do with their lives, or precious vacation time than to spend 7 days staring out at the scenic landscape from the windows of their holding cell, I mean luxury suite!

Whenever there is doubt about the acceptability of the proof of vaccination, one is required to attach further documentation in the form of a clean, unfolded, and unmarked one thousand baht note.

"However, they must be from countries with no mutated strain of SAR-CoV-2"

There are 0 countries that do not have a mutated strain. It's almost as if Thailand does not know what they are doing ????

it appears that the Thai CCSA are mainly concerned about the SA variant as all countries on the list are African. Probably some logic in that as when the Thai vaccine production facility finally starts producing it will be the AZ vaccine which the SA variant has shown a degree of resistance to. Phizer and Moderna haven't conducted specific clinical trials to verify resistance to their vaccines so they may be affected too.

However.........when in recent history has so many tens of millions of intra-muscular vaccinations been done is such a short time ?

The level of side effects seen now - is actually on the same level as potential intra-muscular injections going wrong due to aspiration not being carried out.  There are a number of people where the potential to inject into the blood, instead of the muscle is of the same level as seen with side effects now.

The WHO guide to vaccination does not state aspiration is needed or not needed..........they avoid the subject.

Seriously, for the extra 2 seconds it takes to aspirate................why is this not being done as standard practise to ENSURE every injection is into muscle only....and none goes in the bloodstream ????????????

This applies to all countries administering two-dose vaccines, not just the UK.

There is a perception that UK is way ahead of other countries with vaccines - the reality is that other countries are administering BOTH jabs - it is unlikely that the over 40s in Uk will be jabbed twice before October is over.

In countries with a 3 week break between jabs, those people will be able to get a vaccine passport recognised by the Thai authorities.... as yet the majority of those "vaccinated" (regardless of numbers) in UK do not qualify for a a "Vaxport" ... and won't until the end of the year.

There is also no plan to vaccinate younger age groups - 20 to 40 yrs

There is vast amounts of nonsense spouted on this forum about vaccines, but this takes the biscuit for utter wrongness. See @polpott post above.

Wrong on every level. All Brits on being given their first dose have been given an appointment for their 2nd dose. Next month will see a dramatic rise in the numbers having had their 2nd dose. They are now vaccinating the over 40s. All adults will have been given the opportunity of having the vaccine during July. By October all will have had the opportunity of having had the 2nd dose.

It always used to be. The current guidance is that the vaccine should be injected intramuscularly and not intravenously.

However, as some medical professionals have pointed out, although the chances are small, there is still a chance that the needle could hit a blood vessel.

If you don't aspirate, there's no way to know whether that has happened or not.

Just to clarify the point on 2nd dose, I was told that my 2nd dose,1st 19 Feb, of Astrazenica would happen between end of April and mid May. My wife had the Pfizer 1 week later and she would get her 2nd by the end of April. Like the first dose one will receive a letter and/or a text inviting you to book an appointment.

Moderna jabs will be available before the end of April and the Novavax should be approved soon. Novavax is manufactured in Billingham with 'fill and finish' at the GSK facility in county Durham. So no interference from the EU hampering supplies.
