Many expats spending 100k/month or more (or who have resources to do so) have already had enough of the immigration circus and constant berating/blaming and left..

    Pure fantasy.

  • They could scrap the current 90 day reports and instate a new 3 month report. That'd fool us!

What they are suggesting is just tinkering.  How about getting rid of the medical insurance

requirement for O-A visas?  Insurance companies don't want to insure senior citizens. The premiums vs

insurance coverage is pure theft.  I just saw a policy from AXA, covers cancer for 60,000 baht. Ridiculous.

Another big area is that the retirement visa is just a 1 year tourist visa.  How about granting immigrant status

if one has lived in the country for a minimum of 3 years?  If a foreigner marries a Thai, then immigrant status

immediately, not the same 1 year marriage tourist visa.  Foreigners have added many benefits to Thailand like

restaurant food from all over the world without sugar and msg. Get rid of dual pricing and many more.  Thai goverment

wants foreign money but offers nothing in return except never ending paper work, and pollution that can choke

a horse.

Or, pay an agent a small amount of money and you never have to deal with it.

You're right of course, I don't have any problem with how you spend your money.

However, it's a bit vulgar bragging about money and property, especially when the reality is that you don't really own most of the assets you claim to have.

So I stand by my original label, but I also respect your right to spend your money how you wish, however frivolous.

totster ????

Exactly, the wife/family own everything, once they become bored with 'the golden goose' it will return from whence it came ????????

Same idea being thrown out just a different day!  projection of high end spenders which will translate into higher spending?  Just another simple and stupid suggestion.  A healthy economy is a well rounded policy not the continuation of the same silly idea.

Maybe you need high rollers so they can associate with your high end representatives at the Krystal Club when it opens again?????

They have spent half a decade on tightening up and making it as hard as possible , throwing out a large number of people to know wanting to ease it up????

but it does not stop there , they want ones who will spend 200000-300000 per month, because people with this kind of money were lining up and struggling to get into Thailand

<deleted> this is a Thai guy working for JP Morgan…talkin the talk

two strikes and your out!

Seems to be a repeat of previous announcements with possible 'benefits' for ultra wealthy farang, not your standard farang.

How about

1. 90 day tourist visa ( to a max of 180 days per year ) like the Latin America countries

2.scrap the annual extension, make it a 5 year visa increase fee ( but basic not like the elite visa)

The government says that if it can attract one million retirees each spending 100,000 baht per month or 1.2million baht per year, that would generate 1.2 trillion baht per year for the economy.

Delusional.

The types of foreign retirees targeted will be those who have a healthy pension pot, with the ability to spend 200,000 - 300,000 baht per month.

...and then i got disappointed.

For crying out aloud, no matter how TW tries she can't spend the 65K I bring in a month (retirement extn. Refuse to go down the 800K path)

Been here 20 years, 3 Chanoots, 3 cars and more land than you can poke a stick at --- wot more do they want.?

Blood, sweet & tears.

And don't forget the "possible" 800,000 baht per head X 1 million

to prop up the banks.

You make a number of useful suggestions and observations. However, you do not mention the elephant in the room, and the elephant in the room is that Thais are always superior to foreigners (even if only in their minds, and even if just needed only to counteract the inferiority that they feel – whether that inferiority is real or merely perceived).  The other point that you miss (or do not mention) is that the various hoops that the Thai government obliges foreigners to jump through are not there for any practical purpose, but rather to illustrate superiority. The way the Thai government illustrates superiority over foreigners is to require foreigners to behave in certain ways. Those ways may not have a logic to them, but logic was never the point; the sole point was to make foreigners jump through hoops, It makes them feel good, simple as that.

There's a lot that is good in the suggestions that you make. The flaw in your logic (In my opinion), is that you are trying to analyse actions which spring from the Thai culture, in terms of the logic which springs from the western culture. Oil and water, they do not mix and (in my view) you should not try to make sense out of the one by using logic springing out from another.

Instead of trying to attacks one million retirees to spend 200k - 300k per month why don't they go for one person willing to spend 1.2 Trillion. Much simpler and just as likely.

Exactly right. The people TL is trying to attract have either been before and will not return for precisely that reason, or were always going to go somewhere less primitive to start with. The kind of people who are going to spend 100,000 to 300,000 Baht per month in Thailand are not going to sit on the beach and watch the dogs poop in the sand, and are not likely to go to the local fast food outlet to order somtam.

It seems to me that the whole exercises is delusional, and is therefore part of the problem not part of the solution.

Iam at 60k a month just for house rent/utility bills/Gardener/pool boy etc etc.

Yeah, it can be expensive getting those pool boys to keep quiet.

Hilarious!!! Let's make it easy for the world's scum to come back. I am pretty sure they won't be spending 100k baht each month... And Supertramp play their 1974 hit and dedicate it to Mr Kridakorn.  Dreamer, nothing but a dreamer...

If they do away with the 90 day, they lose some control.

I see it never happening.

TM 30 .

Declaration of your home address should suffice .

Sure there are wealthy retirees who can spend USD 10k every month in Thailand.

If people have that amount of cash though,  they probably want to travel and not sit in one place the entire year.

The attraction of SE Asia for most retired couples is either the weather or the cheap cost of living (compared to Europe or USA).

But they tried that with wealthy tourists a few months ago.

My thoughts exactly. Also how many now actually spend 100,000 Baht per month?  This is a dream and wish I had that kind of money to live like a king. They are delusional to say the least and they keep spitting out the  "blah", "blah", "blah",  5555.

Yes forget the 90 days reporting but if you want us to spend more forget the 800,000 baht requirement in the bank for the retirement visa or the 400,000 baht for the marriage visa. This money just sits there and does nothing for the economy. We should have more freedom with our money after 10 years of living here.

Similar situation for me plus I employ 4 thai people to look after 2 house and gardens. One couple has been with us for 10 years and my money basically put their 3 kids through university.

This sounds too good to be true?  it would be FANTASTIC to allow 80% of condos and a house to be purchased and help Thailand immeasurably - but there will be catches, of course.

100.000 baht per month ...
- Rent 10.000.
= 3000 per day
Get up early mates, go for a few soapies every week and look for a mia noi to reach the goal. ????????????????

There are so many wealthy expats here in Thailand but will not bring there Savings into Thailand because of the lack of direction from the Govenment & Immigration changing rules just to see there name in the Media..

Thailand should open the door to all expats for dual Residency then Expats might bring there hard earned savings into the Country..
