PM disappointed over the need to issue restrictive measures

BANGKOK (NNT) - After chairing a meeting of the Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA), the Prime Minister confirmed there would be no curfew, but placed 18 provinces under maximum control, and 59 under control, while noting his own disappointment over the need for measures that impact the public.

Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha addressed the news media after the CCSA meeting, acknowledging that the COVID-19 situation has intensified but said there is no cause for panic as measures to stifle the spread and to acquire vaccines are ongoing. He indicated enough doses for 500,000 people of vaccine have been acquired already, exceeding the number of infections discovered so far, but noting that due to the emergency situation the doses cannot be sold to private entities. The shots are to be distributed by the Government Pharmaceuticals Organization to private outlets.

While calling for more doctors and nurses to seek out vaccination across the nation, the PM took a moment to remark that it pained him to issue measures that impacted the public’s daily life. He said every decision was made with care and with consideration of all sides.

The PM gave an assurance that medical professionals are capable of treating COVID-19 and are dedicated to avoiding fatalities while commending the Thai people for their discipline, which he said has helped contain the situation effectively, in comparison to many other countries. Pointing to control of the first and second waves of the disease, the PM urged the Thai people to continue to work together to resolve the crisis.

Huh?

"due to the emergency situation the doses cannot be sold to private entities. The shots are to be distributed by the Government Pharmaceuticals Organization to private outlets."

seems contradiction.

unless distributed free to private hospitals for their personel. That should be applauded, because private hospitals were

forced to take covid patients without asking them for payments, the government will settle those costs later on.

not sure what 500k of vaccination program he is talking - is it those 1mln sinovac which arrived the last week. Or is it additional deal with sinovac. Once they mentioned they might get 500k more. That only can arrive sometimes in May.

the bottleneck is distribution program, hesitance to vax as fast as possible

I'm disappointed he's PM, but like his weak measures it probably won't change anything.

I just threw up. Edited to keep it simple.

Thailand SHOULD BE DISAPPOINTED WITH THE FAILURE OF GOVERMENT TO START VACCINATE IN A BIG WAY. No use implement old measures of lock down of pubs and places of gathering...NOW start nation-wide vaccination immediately and immunise at least 70% of population (including foreigners staying on long term visa and all health care professionals) within 2 months to achieve Heard Immunity. Roll up your sleeves and stop complaining NOW Thai Government before we experience another wave of COVID.

There are over 1,300 hospitals in Thailand.

Give them the vaccine & the related requirements to administer.

Average 400 per day x 6 = 2,400 x 1300 = 3,120,000 per week.= 81,120.000 in 6 months

It CULD have been all done now if Thailand had any idea about being pro active.

Yes, expensive, but what is it costing per day now ?

This is the minimum they should be doing NOW

But no, dither, dither penny wise pound foolish

What the.... why the heck has the number of infections ANYTHING to do with the amount of vaccine doses acquired????? His logic really eludes me so much. I can only facepalm.

Oh really? You're disappointed?

I'm disappointed in your very uneven leadership during the pandemic.

At the beginning and up until recently it's been outstanding.

Lately you'd think it was Trump running the show...

The vaccination program in Thailand has not been good so far but Thailand, believe it or not, is actually ahead of Taiwan, Australia, Vietnam, and just a bit behind Japan in terms of portion of the population having at least one shot. There are not enough vaccines to go around at this point until production can ramp up. The vaccines have only been available for 4 months or so. Lots of countries are struggling to get their populations vaccinated and I assume Thailand did not feel the urgency that some other countries did given the low number of infections through 2020, one of the lowest in the world.

I think you'll find Australia is well ahead according to this source. https://ourworldindata.org/covid-vaccinations

He doesn't know what he's on about, the number of infections has nothing to do with how many vaccine you have, and as far as I am aware, if you have Covid you can't be vaccinated.

500,000 vaccine, what good is that to a population of 69 million, its a pathetic effort by this government, and vaccins are no good unless you start to  jab people, don't leave them on the shelf....

How? They don't have the doses and they don't have the plan to get them into arms quickly even if they did. We'll be lucky if they reach those numbers by the end of 2022.

Also, it's already quite clear that because of the <deleted> poor global response and continuing development of variations (Brazil's being the most troubling) booster shots are going to be needed perhaps annually going forward for who knows how long.

You don't vaccinate people that have current acute infections but people that have HAD it before are being vaccinated and there are early reports that some people with seriously debilitating long Covid are improving quickly after vaccination.

In Canada, the health officials are saying that even if you were infected by COVID 19 virus, to get at least

one shot of the vaccine.  I believe that is so you will not be so sick if you get infected a 2nd time by COVID.
