Despite being illegal, sales in Thailand of vibrators and other sex toys are buzzing, a new report has revealed.

According to Vice News, Thailand’s customs department confiscated 4,000 sex toys in 2020.

This is despite punishment for anyone found to be selling, buying or in possession of sex toys  facing up to three years in jail and/or a fine of up to 60,000 baht.

The report by Vice says that the Thai government’s refusal to legalise sex toys because it goes “against the view of Thai society,” is hypocritical given the country’s prominent sex industry, which the site says is a $6.4 billion dollar industry.

While sex toys are openly sold in places like Nana, Patpong and Silom, it is all on the black market.

“The government’s refusal to legalize sex toys is driving the black market to grow because humans will always have sexual desires; this law doesn’t stop people from buying. They will [simply] find a different way,” Natasha, the sex toy seller told Vice News.

“Black market profits from this law tremendously. Anyone can make a quick buck because there’s no rule, no regulations. Sellers can profit 10 times in a single sale if they want to, because they’re above the law. This is why it must be changed,” Nisarat Jongwisan who has led a movement to legalise sex toys in Thailand, told Vice.

Like elsewhere around the world, the COVID-19 pandemic has further contributed to the demand in Thailand for sex toys.

But demand for sex toys in Thailand came before the COVID-19 pandemic.

A report by Thai media in 2018 highlighted the growing demand for sex toys in Thailand.

In 2019, police carried out a raids on street vendors along Sukhumvit, close to Nana BTS station, where sex toys and illegal sex pills totalling 2 million Baht were confiscated.

Last year, an MP from Thailand’s Civilised Party proposed legalising prostitution and sex toys in a bid to reduce the number of sex crimes that are committed in the country each year.

if legalised the treasury would have, at least, VAT, import taxes. And larger scale of sale.

And locally made might became exported to muslim countries

Kind of expected that sentence to end 'riyals'...

Sheds some light on the unsolicited sex toy parcel scam!

Here are a couple questions I never found the answer:

1- what happens if you're caught with a sex toy on your luggage when coming in?

2- what happens if you buy some sex toy overseas (say Aliexpress) and it gets caught by customs?

For the second question I have somewhat experienced it - the order could be considered a sex toy but at the same time it didn't really have any resemblance to a human body part so it could be just a massage device - it never got delivered and when tracking the package I got "Unsuccessful delivery,Prohibited articles - item not delivered/Item seized or destroyed because of nature of content"

Obviously I never complained, this was months ago and I just let it go. I do have other successful purchases and also friends who ordered loads of sex toys, many with quite obvious shapes and they all cleared through customs without hassle.

Of course it did and possibly it was after the Vietnam war had  finished and US and other Farang personnel started leaving, that  the Thai ladies realised there were better things to satisfy themselves with other than Thai men.

Just buy them off Lazada and ensure you have the "Local" box checked when searching so that you only buy ones that are already in Thailand and don't need to go through customs.

Well being full is one issue  but as for being satisfied it appears that most Thai men are only interested in their own satisfaction and not of their partners, basically selfish little dicks.

I am wondering when Thailand will stop with all these ridiculous laws.. Now sextoys, illegal prostitution, blurring in the news of weapons, drinks and sigarettes, . It all exist in Thailand. The police now the Government know and treat people like they are kids. Grow up and instead of searching for <deleted>'s do something really about he drugsdealing that is what people do openly too and is more dangerous than a <deleted>, or inflatable doll

Same as prostitution, make it legal. I can not believe why so many governments are interested in controlling the sexual needs of their citizens. Probably religion and that some people (BIB and those in power) may lose a lot of illegal made money.

This county love tossing its citizens in jail for "morality" crimes.  It keeps the public focused on the small stuff so that real crime at the top can proceed unnoticed.

Talk about making a mountain out of a mole hill!

I thought everything illegal was big business in Thailand!

Geee. Look at this way. 3 years in jail is better than life sentence or death penalty. I guess it's time to get rid of my dildoes. I better get a gun before they ban that too.

Think you are missing an even bigger point. They really could become the no.1 <deleted> makers in the world with their rubber producing capacity. Grow it local, make it local, export it.

Too slow.

If your country had one of the smallest average penis sizes among men, next to the Koreans, you probably would look to ban the competition too.

I think my prostate problem not worth risking 3 years in jail. I wish I woul know a good proctologist other than myself.

I deleted it as I don't want another ban for suggesting selling dildos to muslims during Ramadan !!

Jealousy in action !!!

Are they going to <deleted> down all entertainment places in Thailand as they are indeed providing sex .Toys are illegal but selling sex on & off the streets is acceptable? Many thai women that I know own sex toys. But they refuse to use when I am around????????

Surely someone of these objects are essential for use by the government when conducting 'probes'?
