Health officials in Thailand’s central province of Ayutthaya have expanded COVID-19 screening to 800 people at high risk in Muang district, after 20 people, linked to the central farmers’ market, were found to be infected, prompting health officials from the Disease Control Department and Ratchathani Hospital to target screening on traders in the market.

 

Many other people have, however, applied for the free screening, but there are not enough test queue tickets for all of them, said a health official, adding that authorities have been discussing how to deal with this problem.

 

The central market is located on a 1.6 hectare plot on the in-bound Asian Highway in Hantra sub-district. It contains over 100 shops and is well known for grilled seafood.

The Government have had well over a year to plan for this eventuality and have done sod all about it they have clung on in the hope that the country would escape Covid when they could have everything in situ fir the worst scenario there more interested in buying high speed trains from there friends the Chinese ruling party ☹️☹️☹️☹️

yeah, keep those markets opened and close bars and restaurants. no wonder where all those numbers coming from

Panic has set in because even the Thais know it is getting out of control.  When they were charging no one show up why?  as many commented like myself when the general population is poor live on a 100 baht a day they are now going to shell out for a Covid-19 test?

 

You say free like everywhere everyone is going to come out of the woodwork sick or not.  Government of each province are now just calling register resident to come in for a test to cover their butts that is good but where is the Vaccine?????

Free screening is limited... and so are the infection rate figures....

Prayut & the health ministry should be ashamed of the current mess.

This was not Saksayam Chidchob's fault; he returned from Bangkok to Buriram apparently with a private yet and Ayutthaya has, to the best of my limited knowledge, no airport ???? 

There is also a high demand for vaccination, yet Thailand lags at the back of the pack, the worst performing country in ASEAN. Quite a distinction, Prayuth! And you said you guys were ready. Lies, and more lies.

Many of TV members can't blame the government more than themselves for not planning for this obvious reality. because when people like me 8 months ago said Thailand will get it's turn you all laughed. 

It doesn't take a math major to realize it doesn't take much to overwhelm contact tracing like it obviously is now.  I commend Thailand on the contact tracing for the first 14 months. 

It has been consistently shown in other countries and indeed Thailand itself, that the way to suppress the virus is with short, hard lockdowns when the virus pops up. Think NZ, Australia, Singapore, samet sakhon.

 

incremental restrictions as cases rise mean always playing catch up, never gaining control. Think most countries and Thailand today.

I wonder if Prayut and Anutin will sit together, relaxing after a hard day, and saying just how glad they are that they let the Songkran holiday and all that travel around the country go ahead? After all, Thailand is a democracy, and now every single province has been affected by this outbreak, share and share alike, nobody can accuse the government of being only focused on Bangkok, lol.

So you think it is good policy to stock up on something you may never use that has a relatively short shelf life.

Not a problem for those with mushrooming infection from day one, others were between a rock and a hard place. Hindsight is wonderful at providing the solution.

There was /is a global pandemic with vaccination almost universally recognized as the only ultimate solution- just as with other communicable diseases. No hindsight to be puzzled about at all. This was pure incompetence. Your position is akin to the man falling off the skyscraper heard to say as he passed each floor " so far so good" ????‍♂️

i miss the good old days pre-covid, when we was all immortal !!

It would not surprise me that by midweek there will be much stricter edicts  by Provincial governors that will go as far as total lockdowns.

Have just been told that the roads into  Prakhon Chai in Buriram province have been closed due to what must presumably be a massive number of suspected cases that would justify such actions !

Am not denying that the info is anecdotal at this  point in time but if at all accurate  is a sign of some serious days ahead!

An amendment to my post. It is a small village ( Ban Khok Sa-ad ) in the district of Prakhon Chai that has been isolated and locked down  following the death of one of two persons  found infected.

Yes indeed, markets are a big problem here in Cambodia (especially Phnom Penh) and for reference from todays Khmer Times:-

 

"As Phnom Penh is still under lockdown and its people already struggling to find their daily supplies, the authorities today announced that two more markets in the capital will be closed temporarily after several vendors and security guard have tested positive for COVID-19. So far, Phnom Penh Municipality has ordered numerous markets in the capital after they have been identified as hotspots where the coronavirus is spread among people, including O’Russey Market, Derm Kor Market, Neak Meas Market and many others."

Assuming you are referring to Covid test kits, you bet your life I think it’s a good idea to stock up in advance. Even if it turned out that by some miracle Thailand didn’t need them, they could be donated to other countries. But in reality, who in their right mind could think there was no need for a big stockpile of test kits? I mean, come on.
