Channel 3 reported that a sting conducted in the north eastern city of Nakhon Phanom resulted in the arrest of a 23 year old woman from Pattaya.

 

Because there were no tourists going to Pattaya the "waitress and service girl" had gone home and got together with her friends to rent a place then advertise their services on Line and Twitter.

 

They were asking 1,500 to 2,000 baht a time for the VIP service.

 

Nakhon Phanom district chief Somrak Yoknoiwong got to hear about what the media called a "gang of women".

 

A secret man posing as a VIP was sent in after 1,500 baht was agreed.

 

After the sting "A" was handed over to the Muang District police saying in tears that she was used to getting plenty of money in Pattaya and needed cash for her expenses such as instalments on the car.

 

"I can get lots of money doing this," she said. "What am I to do?"

 

A video on the same site suggested the arrested woman was 26 and this activity had been caused by the lack of tourism due to the pandemic.

 

In the text on the story it was stated that at least 5-10 women had got together to offer their services and they had a "mamasan".

 

Investigations continue.

Consequently it is no surprise to see that prostitutes are offering themselves online though arrests of this nature are unusual. 

 

The spread of Covid-19 has been cited as a reason for the action.

Jeez. Took that police department all that effort and time to bust a few women only. Could have easily opened badoo or thaifriendly or tinder and found hundreds of them selling themselves for VIP service in your own home. They could have set up a home and had all these women coming to them and arresting them. I know one in 3 that I have chatted are seeking customers in these apps. Quite alot due to covid and businesses closing. 

With no pics of the accused, how can we weigh in if 1500tb was a fair price?

The RTP appear to have nothing better to do like, you know, tackling serious crime. Pathetic.

 

It is interesting that the ring was closed because of the possible spread of Covid due to intimate contact not because of prostitution. Prostitution may be illegal, put on the statutes by holier than thou do gooders and possibly to ingratiate the country with the rest of the world but it is generally well tolerated by the police who treat it with pragmatism

 

What did they expect them to do; lay back and think of Thailand as they starved ?

She should have know to cut the local BIB in.

Why do I think that the guy that turned them in did not like the idea that they would not give him a freebie because he was important.

 

The only thing that this lady did wrong was to do it in a small northern area.  I am sure that there are lots of girls do that in BKK and Pats with no issues.

It takes only a few clicks in google to find at least 100 similar services in Thailand, including pictures, precise descriptions and prices of what is offered and what to expect.

No, they just said when they searched Soi Esso, and they had cleared out.
