A former Esport player who, via Facebook livestream, told of his sufferings from suspected COVID-19 infection, during his five-day self–isolation at home, before he was finally taken to a hospital, died on Friday night.

The victim, Mr. Kunlasub Wattnaphon, said, during the undated livestream, that he was already in bad shape, unable to drive a car and reluctant to take a taxi, for fear of infecting other people.

He said he coughed a lot and felt thirsty all the time, but his condition did not improve, even if drank three litres of water. He also said that he took medication to ease his fever, experienced breathing difficulties and everything he ate tasted very sweet and hurt his throat.

Sad he did not get help sooner, and treatment he needed.  Sounds like he tried for 5 days to get help, but it did not arrive.  Wonder where he might have picked the virus up from, maybe he went to an entertainment venue.  The main story does not say.

Really sad news.

Since he's an E-sport player i guess he must be pretty young.

Report also stated that he was obese, so hopefully somebody will start taking their health seriously, and start exercising and changing diet.

It's horrible to think that Thailand has all these "body-chasers" that race to car accidents etc. But nobody wants to pick up a mortally sick patient in his own home.

How can playing computer games be classed as sport?

You have a lot to learn my friend.  Look up E-Sports and see exactly how people earn a royal living as the top player in their games of choice.  Esports (also known as electronic sports, e-sports, or eSports) is a form of competition sports using video games. Esports often takes the form of organized, multiplayer video game competitions, particularly between professional players.

Almost like being a professional Poker Player, and yes Poker is a sport as well.  Poker may not be a physical sport in the true sense of the word, but it is already an internationally accepted mind sport. This has been validated by the IMSA back in 2010.

Fair enough,

But sport to me is putting on Gym gear and working up a sweat.

A sad outcome for a  young obese sedentary life styler who ultimately made the wrong move!

I am not unsympathetic but if he eventually found a way to get to a hospital why not earlier?

One penultimate chess challenge ?

It may be financially rewarding but that doesn't make it a sport.  Naturally anyone that benefits from calling it a sport will do so (like the IMSA, IOC etc) but without physical activity it won't be a sport in most peoples eyes.

I've heard chess, poker etc called mind sports and giving them that qualifier seems more appropriate.

For most people that's the perception, however there is more to sports than playing on a field, on a court, on a track etc....

Old and outdated thoughts sir, old and outdated.

The posts above read like a Monty Python sketch.

The point here is that this person tried for 5 days to get an ambulance to take him to the hospital, but could not and subsequently died.

Are there no ambulances in Thailand?

Old thoughts, but certainly not outdated.  Not being part of the woke generation that gives prizes for being last is something to rejoice about.  Equating games, whether electronic or otherwise, with sport is not, IMO.

If you looked at his photos he was not morbidly obese, in fact he was what appeared to be a little over weight, much like a retired football player may end up looking like one day after retiring.  Stop blaming those that die for their creating the deaths themselves.  He had tried for 5 days to get to a hospital but no ambulance came for him just  like the elderly man who waited for several days as well at home and instead his entire family was infected.  You can not blame others for dying unless it was directly at their own hands.  If you believe he died because he did what he did for a sport then you definitely appear to be unsympathetic unlike what you have written.

Really, the Woke movement.  So in your view Chess is a game for the Woke movement, Shooting is for the Woke movement, Bocce Ball is the woke movement, as well as any other game that uses brain and skill over Braun.  You really need to think more along the lines of what a sport really is, and it is not just putting on gym shoes and heading out to play on a field beating ones head in playing rugby. Competitive sports take on all shapes and sizes, and you do not get an award for participating, unless your talking children's sports, and with that I agree with you on.  There is a big difference when it comes to those things, but then maybe you are unaware.  Do you consider bowling a sport?, how about Pool?  do I have your attention yet.

Games, even competitive ones or those requiring a specialist skill set, should not be described as sports.

I never said the ones mentioned were for the woke movement, I used that group as an example of something not to be celebrated.

I also said it was my opinion, albeit one that I think most would agree with.  You appear to be giving your opinion on the subject as fact.

The definition referenced above covers it quite well:

"a game, competition, or activity needing physical effort and skill that is played or done according to rules, for enjoyment and/or as a job"

Ergo e-sports.  We will agree to disagree.

Physical effort is needed if you have ever watched a true e-sports competition.

You need to do some research and not rely on what your view of a sport is.  But then we do not agree it seems. 20 years ago I would have sided with you, but not now knowing what I do now.

RIP.  Poor guy.  They don't bother to pick up guys like this but worry about fining people who refuse to be picked up to go to their lousy field hospitals.  What the hell is going on?

So, he had symptoms for 5 days but didn't go for a test. Did he actually try to contact a hospital or just some 'ambulance service'.

Where for me it was either kicking a ball around or driving a car on track. We all have different views of what we call "our sport".  However the less physical sports such as playing computer games may have attributed to his obesity being as they are less physical in nature. Who knows ,sad he couldn't get help when it was needed

During his five-day self–isolation, Kunlasub said he had made several hotline calls, seeking someone to pick him up for a test and to admit him for treatment.

Without success, he said he took to Facebook livestream to explain his ordeal. It worked this time and an ambulance was sent the next day to take him to hospital.
