Thailand aiming to procure 100 million COVID-19 vaccine doses this year

Featured Replies

Okay. 100 million doses by the end of the year. Thailand has 69 million people, who all require two doses. Maybe 65 million if you deduct the very young. So the government is admitting that their vaccination programme will not be completed until at least well into 2022, about a year behind the UK and many other countries.

Ordering another 1 million doses of the Chinese vaccine that is anywhere from 50 - 84% effective depending on which report you read?  I don't, honestly, understand why the government didn't contract w

Maybe that is why they went with the Chinese vaccines ... easier to inflate the pricing vs Pfizer or one of the other brands ....?

It is very likely that by the end of 2021 there will be a glut in available vaccines on the buyers market.

Also likely that only those that have been modified/upgraded to cope with current and new  variants will continue to being desired.

There are up to 200 vaccines currently still being developed which if even 50 of them get to emergency approval status will dramatically alter the "game".

I wonder if things get desperate, if Thailand would pull and India and refuse to export the vaccines until the population is vaccinated?

I'm asking this question because the AZ vaccine has proven, in Europe, to be difficult to manufacture compared to the mRNA ones. Europe has been reporting a big shortfall in AZ vaccines.

Not at all. Its very easy to make in mass production and very cheap.

AZ didn't organize all well. In factories to increase production. That was a real big big mess

Then the products to make the vaccines most come from USA. And the white house stopped total export from all these products. Same big problem at the Indian world biggest vaccine factory. They could not manufacture in full capacity because no products. And AZ has even not been approved by FDA and they won't.

Yesterday the white house lifted the ban on export and also will export to many different countries the 60 million vaccines sleeping in AZ company

The headline says it all........ "aiming to" but can they aim straight ?

EU is now suing AZ for non-delivery. There was an Inside Story episode on Al Jazeera discussing this recently

Just subterfuge.

Another day, another covid goal.

Zero vaccines in the public's collective arm as of this date.

"Aiming".?

Another weasel word.

I don't doubt that they are also "doing their best".

But thanks for playing and tell the PM what he's won Bob.

Nothing but contempt, derision, and ridicule

I read somewhere a month ago that the government had approved the buying of vaccines by private companies which could then sell them to the private hospitals.  Now it seems that permission has just been granted today!!!!

Or Gates, et al clinging to IP rights while thousands die daily.

It's really tragic the 80+ countries have gotten roped into the fantasy that India and South Africa could produce mRNA vaccines if they only could break the patents. They would waste lots of time getting together the equipment, experiencing trial and error, various shortages, etc.

The reality is that the US could produce enough vaccine for all in a reasonable time if the US government ordered the creation of adequate production facilities. US needs that anyway to be able to respond quickly to the next viral challenge. But the World needs to bring this to the attention of US bureaucrats.

The U.S. has thrown a lot of money into speeding up the vaccine testing and production.  Billions.

Has anybody seen any very recent up to date details of when the local production of the AZ vaccine will be available for inoculations?

“Aiming.” LOL.

Wake me up when somebody actually hits a target.

Zero. Siam bioscience keeps extremely quiet. This little Co who has no experience in vaccines and zero in mass production not want come out with any update of the production. The only thing you hear is delaying the date the first will be ready. First it was May now it's July-August. And I won't trust that vaccine at all. DID THEY FOLLOW ALL THE CORRECT MANUFACTORY STEPS???

Real big question with zero answer or could be manipulated one as you cannot say anything bad of a Royal ownership

But not to building facilities to rent/make available to vaccine producers. Current scale is insufficient to fill the lack of vaccines internationally in a reasonable time.

They spent a lot of money with many companies all along the supply and manufacturing chain so that those companies could expand capacity with less risk.

I'm aware of what you state, but the capacity is not even enough for the US if next time a rapid response is called for, i.e. producing vaccine for the population in around 4 months.
