Actually it is from a desire to control the epidemic. They cannot protect the Thai population without vaccinating foreigners and they have always known this.

Sheryl.  You, I, and most ex-pats here are rational human-beings and given this situation in our home countries we'd be imploring our government to vaccinate everyone for the public good.

These Thais in the healthcare fields perceive the same as we do.

The problem is the xenophobia within the Thai culture that prompts the Thai populace to implore their government officials (such as Anutin) to "force foreigners to take the shot and make them pay" and then the government officials acquiesces  to the public demands.  So here we are in a public relations power struggle as one set of politically motivated ministers issue press-releases that foreigners will pay for their shots, while public-health officials seeking the better public good issue press-releases countering the assertion of their peers stating the foreigners need the shots for the public good, i.e., "herd immunity."

Then they end up with a confused mess with the right-hand not knowing what the left-hand is doing.  My guess is that this isn't over.

What they say and what they do are two different things poof will be in the pudding come July lets see!

Until now we can't even officially register to get a vaccine and even if we could it doesn't mean you will get a jab.
Next they will blame us for not registering on time.

Where is "Bangrak Building"? Or should it read "at a building in Bangrak"?

I'm not sure. I've never been there. It is all very unclear, which is another reason why going to Chaengwattana would be so much better for me. But apparently Immigration are trying to make it convenient for the foreign embassies, not us.

But not yet. I registered at my local hospital through my university where I'm employed. With the assurance that I would be vaccinated. Arrived for my 2 pm appointment today (7th May) but although my name was on the list I was refused because a) not Thai and b) no Thai I.d. I used my social security no. and my wife completed the online form in Thai. Just have to wait and see.

I did the survey and then they replied that they can't supply jabs to us. A waste of time IMHO. Why do this?

How white of them...

I don't want their lousy vaccines anyway. I'll get my own.

You can't count on this government for anything, especially if you're a foreigner.

You can't count on them if you are a Thai either

I only stated yesterday , "not to panic"

See, they are on it!!

All we need to see now is any form of mass rollout as it is all far too slow

Still at the stage of flip flopping and don't know where, don't know when.  Wait for jam tomorrow boys.

One report quoted the ministry official as telling foreigners to ask their embassies for vaccinations, if they can't wait.  As if the Thai government would let them import vaccines and set up vaccination centres for their citizens, apart from embassy staff which has of course already happened in the US embassy.

Lucky for Thais living overseas that they have not been treated with such racisim and derision.

I'm not an import specialist, but embassies have diplomatic import privileges. Vaccinations would have to take place at diplomatic facilities to avoid arguments.

For epidemic control purposes resident is anyone who is presently living here.

There is no connection between immigration law categories and the term "resident" in everyday speech. It literally means residing in i.e. living in.

Migrant workers are very much a priority, in fact some were already immunized under Phase 1.

I think from the onset, government has thought of "foreigners" mainly in terms of migrant workers as those account for the vast majority of foreigners in Thailand. Some  of them lack both passport and Thai ID card and some are completely undocumented, making the issue of how to target them complicated.

Migrant workers should be identified by the national IDs if they have them, but if not let's hope that WHO comes up with a modern card that's linked to national databases.

Maybe not to panic but words are words and vaccines in arms are vaccines in arms.

I'm not from Missouri but they've got a point. The SHOW ME state.

Such as

SHOW ME the announced expat online tool and SHOW ME that it's actually usable to get actual appointments that we then SHOW UP for.

SHOW ME the for pay private hospitals actually getting a brand of vaccine that most expats actually want as opposed to Sinovac so that expats can actually book appointments there instead of public hospitals if they so choose (and most will so choose if that option is available in a timely manner).

Time to book a flight home and get your free Pfizer or Moderna.

Such an excursion would be very far from free.

One of the options includes the creation of a mobile app to facilitate registration.

Will, most probably, be reversed again, as it was just a 'misunderstanding'.

Expect the app to be ready (though, a bit faulty still) in autumn 2025.

To what does this refer?

Non-Thais have to pay tax, no exception, and the chances of cooking the books is more than minimal - fine with me. The ceiling of income taxation is 35% of your gross remuneration. Latter includes health insurance payments or school fees for your kids.

My point is, that if non-Thais work in Thailand, they pay lots of income tax, which is - as said - fine with me. But then you should not exclude this particular group of the society in a very racist way of "no vaccination to the dirty farang" ..........

The non-working, i.e. retired crowd of non-Thais spend, by immigration rule, THB 65'000/monthly or an accrued THB 800'000/years in Thailand - per person that is - and have to prove that. My irrelevant opinion is, that this cluster of society cannot be excluded - in the spirit that all people are equal in front of the Thai law!

Yet this week's announcement by various sources referred to "can", "cannot", "can", "cannot" and (presently again) "can". What damage have all those non-Thais done to the superior Thailand and its people so to even think about excluding them from a public health programme ............. a true two-class society with a foul "apartheid" aftertaste ...

It is not a question of IF we will be offered vaccinations, because it will happen. The questions are WHEN and how much .....

Sure, but also WHICH as in which brand which relates to the paying option because that track is likely to offer a better choice.

Also I think for the vast majority of us getting it free is not important but the WHEN part could be life or death.
