The OP highlights why my iPhone location is off and there is no access to anyone.  I sign in on the sheet, when I can be bothered,  but I don't use a Q Code for anything. Its arguably the most insecure item of technology you can have on your phone. .

another reason to get a vpr on your phone and operate it 24/7

Big brother is fine, he won't care what you do.

However with all these tracking devices, GPS on cars computers these days I would like to point out than when visiting Mia nois in curtain hotels these days it is advisable to take the old motorbike and forget your phone.

It used to be so easy in the eighties with only land lines.

And ladies available. ???????????? 555

Well I can see some people are having fun with the topic .  So far i have not really heard a good answer

that would explain him knowing my middle name. Any Apps I have only have my first and last name .

If he had have just used my first and last name I would not have been so concerned butt he fact that he knew my middle name  and he had it translated in to Thai instantaneously causes me pause ,

The only organizations that have my middle name are Immigration , DOT (drivers licence), the groups attached to my 14 day quarantine  like the hotel and the hospital .

That is why I do not or have never down loaded the track you app. May be it is impossible to down load it completely as it leaves a back door open that can link track you to your phone number. Is you phone registered in your name?

Good point . Fact is my phone is registered in my Thai girlfriends name  so he didn't get my  full name that way .

Ask your wife to pick up an extra roll of aluminium foil next time she’s at Big C, you obviously need a helmet!

They say you can't fix stupid so I have no suggestions for your wife other than ear plugs .

I was carrying my passport but no scans shared with lazada, western union, transferwise . Of the three I only use Lazada and pay cash .  Passport scans were provided to hotel for 14 day quarantine.

Facebook doesn't have my real name . I was told to use an alias and tied  Facebook to  a

back up email address and not my main Email .

I think the officials have connected immigration name&photo database (where your airport immigration checkpoint photos go to) with quarantine name database and track people who just finished quarantine period with face scanners embedded in temperature check devices.

please leave your smartphone at home and come to that shop one more time to find out if they recognize you. If yes - my assumption is right, if no - it could be some tracking app in smartphone (possible undeletable remains of Morchana app)

No bank apps on phone .  In Thailand 99.9 % of transactions are cash .  Thai bank receives  funds transfer prior to my arrival and i wear a path to my local ATM taking out cash .

Come to think of it I was carrying  the banks  debit card .

Part of the reason for my starting this thread is to see if anyone else has had this experience

when interfacing with one of the Covid check points .

I may be able to swing by this place tomorrow . I will turn off my  smartphone  prior to arrival and leave it in my car in the parking lot .  I just hope there is someone there when I arrive who I can ask "what's my full name "? ????

When you go to IO for a renewal they take your photo, when you present your head to the temp scanner it takes a face recognition and when you go and stand in front of a urinal ????????????

unfortunately the facial recognition even with masks on is already this sophisticated and widely available.

The key word here is 'sophisticated'...Of course the technology exists and is available, but do you really think the Thai gov't is using it, or anything else that sophisticated, to this degree? It's cost prohibitive, and in case you haven't noticed, they're not the the most technically astute people, generally speaking, compared to more developed countries.

Today in Tesco Lotus the hand scanner told me my temperature was 33.6C.

???? Isn't technology amazing and so dependably accurate? At one Tesco here in Hua Hin it always registers high and a couple of times it was a little over 37C and I'm always looking around to make sure the secret police aren't about to grab me.

once upon a time in Russia there was a small company called NTechLab consisting of young talented enterpreneurs and programmers, and they were creating a face recognition software for fun - "upload your ex photo to find her profile on porn sites and her profile on VK.com".

shortly after FSS came to their office... and now their software is searching for demonstrators' profiles using photos from the recent anti-Putin protest rallies.

The software costed zero dollars to the Russian government, and the officials did not need to be even a little bit tech-savvy to operate it.

If you did not understand my analogy: the sophisticated facial recognition software is not cost prohibitive for you and does not require you to be technically astute if you are an army guy from the government and could simply give a command.

Like I said, I'm well aware of the kinds of technology available. Regardless of the cost, they're not doing that here on any large scale and certainly not at every Tesco or small "mom and pop" venue. I'm not talking about the military, who knows what they're up to. In the US they were looking at using facial recognition at places like Walmart and Home Depot to track people's buying habits - at an individual level. This was a few years ago, so I'm not sure where that ended up, I do know there were huge privacy concerns over it. There is all kinds of technology available to big government, technology that most people are not even aware of or privy to, but that's not what we're talking about here, is it?

7/11 announced on March 15 2018 that they were installing face recognition equipment in some Thai stores as a trial run prior to installing them country wide, so it cannot be that expensive.
