Covid will never go away, ever. So everytime a person catches it we're supposed to hide. This is getting ridiculous.

  • Is there a set date for this current Covid wave to end? No, so likewise equally obviously there is no "date set yet to reopen" bars.

Up here in the boonies my pub restaurant is open for eat in but no beer since the Songkran strain came.

I asked owners who are my friends and they said they have no idea when they will be able to serve beer again.

They said maybe when there is no more covid in the province and who knows when that will be.

Don't bother me much mum & pops shops are selling beer as well as others.

I think this is the new normal for Thailand, until people are all vaccinated.

It makes life a bit boring (i don't miss the bars but other stuff). But it is how it is can't moan too much about it.

There are some plans to open up Phuket and even Pattaya but also these plans are dependent on the vaccination rate. I think everyone has seen how the Thai government is messing that up so those plans might also not happen.

I hope im wrong but i think it can take a long time think end of this year before things will open up more.

I am pretty sure the government would want nothing more then to open up because this is costing them a lot of popularity and they are losing loads of money. So the moment they think they can get away with it they will open up.

No, but until the government gets everyone vaccinated you'll just have to grin and bear it. Covid still won't be going away, but it will become akin to the flu.

Not exactly till enough people are vaccinated we need to keep it under control. This level is ablut the max as more then this and health care cannot cope.

So we just have to be patient. Right now the risk is not too bad if healthcare cant cope its a different story.

A very long time. Vaccinations will be a long time and who says they will work.

They reopened before, restaurants are open for indining in most places. Schools were slated to reopen 14 June. I predict bars will open end of June 2021.

Yup, despite the weekly promotions announcing this and that attraction to restart tourism it is pretty clear that this is the new norm for a totally unpredictable future.

Until somebody can guarantee that there will be no more variants and that the vaccines currently being given will continue to be effective against anything new , then a return to pre covid normality seems a long way off.

I never thought a year ago I would think this but the last month has eroded my previous optimism .

I predict bars, places of entertainment, swimming pools, countries, borders, flights, etc. will be randomly opened/closed/cancelled with no notice for the next 5-10 years or longer, despite mandatory random experimental vaccinations every 6 months.

Book a holiday, expect your home country or the destination country to cancel it at random.

On holiday, expect your return home to be cancelled at random by the air company, or your home country.

Enjoy the rest of your life!

Not everyone who gets covid needs a hospital bed. My 63 yr old buddy had it last month in the USA. Stayed home the whole time, no fever, just tired and slept all day for 2 weeks. I know different scenario as his wife had the Vaccine and he only stayed home. Don't think that would work here. I think we'll be wearing masks here for years to come. Just to blend in.

See how easy it is to manipulate the public. This is like an experiment to take over the world.

No not everyone who gets covid needs a hospital bed but if you don't lockdown like now then you get huge numbers and a small percentage of a large amount is enough to flood the health system and then its a major problem.

Sleeping all day for 2 weeks does not seem like just a flu to me. In the Netherlands there are many people with long lasting covid problems. A lot of people only look at death rate but forget the long lasting effects of covid for some people (10% or so)

I am not really scared of covid, but would not want to be responsible for infecting friends. Im not fat im in relative good shape and eat healthy. So i would probably not be in the high risk group. Still I would prefer not to get it.

I don't like restrictions either but I understand why they are here. I just hope they get their vaccine program going. Seems a lot of hot air and not so much action.

Well as soon as the government stops its hatred of the demon drink or when all the bars are bankrupt.  I am betting on the latter one.

The people making the rules are probably having a few glasses of Hennessy XO when they get home.

And they don't care who goes bankrupt as long as it's not them.

Wow is right, but not because of @BritManToo post...rather because It's EXACTLY what's been going on around the globe for more than a year with no end...or very vague and random ends...in sight.

Talking to a bar owner in Chiang Mai yesterday she said August 1st is what she knows so far.

Yeah, the virus is tough.  Sad some try to deny the severity of this pandemic and/or make fun of it.

I have 2 hotels booked for end of July and Christmas in Pattaya, I shall only be going if the bars are open.

I expect to have to cancel the July one with Christmas being the most likely.

I cant see Phuket opening up next month with international tourists with no nightlife.

Is that why bars clubs and other drinking establishments in other countries have been closed as well ?

If you use your brain you would realize that in such establishments it is hard to have social distancing, also particularly in Thailand they are frequented  by younger people who may not be affected  by Covid but are “carriers”.

But don’t let reality get in the way of a spot of Thai bashing.

Quite. The elite always believe they behave better than the rest of people so the rules don't apply to them.

But I'd be interested to know how you feel the Thai government is 'liberal'. ????

Come on... all humans believe the rules don't apply to themselves to a certain extent.

The only difference is the elite usually get away with it due to systemic bias towards them.

My friend who owns a Chiang Mai bar said that no matter when an opening date is announced he will not be reopening. His experience in the last year shows that until tourism returns in volume it is simply not worth the stress of employing staff only to have to fire them within weeks when another clamp down comes.  He sees no hope for the rest of this year and probably well into next.

Well one thing is guaranteed the bars clubs ect will be the last to open

If your lucky end of July /August at the earliest

More likely after the vaccine programme has been carried out in the popular Tourist areas no point in opening up if no

Bars or restaurants selling alcohol
